2 tables left, I didn’t want to just ship 30bbs and wasn’t going to 3bet pre and bet fold or check fold flop, unless of course you tell me this is spewy.

It is very akward stack sizes but your putting 1/3 of your chips in with the 3bet. I dont want to see a flop like you saw and have to make a tough decision. Also the worse thing happened he simply called and your OOP. You had a plan and stuck with it, but Im betting he had a PP and with just a J on the flop Im also betting he calls. It is a lot to shove pre and he is the chip leader but you have enough to cripple his stack by moving in. Interested to hear what the pros think.
I jam pre as default. If I have a good read on the villian and I’m really sure that he is not flatting a 3bet in this spot (which I think is atrocious) then I would go ahead and 3bet to induce a 4bet shove. However, the $10 tournies are full of bad players and unfortunately getting flattied here is all too common. I think Jamming pre keeps us out of weird spots like this and you will be amazed at what some of these people will call off with. Hands like AT,AJ KQ,44 will show up here plenty enough to make up for the little bit of value we lose by overshoving pre imo.
As played, I like your shove. I think you could also make a small cbet giving the villian the impression that he has fold equity with a hand that he would otherwise fold to the shove. Check/Raising is kinda sexy too but it would be my last option (folding isnt an option)
Sounds like there is a lot more downside to the 3 bet as opposed to just straight shoving. Considering the akward stack sizes, being OOP, having AK and the possibility of seeing a flop if I’m called, it’s beginning to sound like just shoving this is the better move. Any other opinions?
I actually like your shove. You only have a pot sized bet left, and you want to put your opponent to a tough decision.
He might hero call you with 88 here, but he also might fold it, as well. I like the aggression of this play.
Shoving might be an unexploitable way to play this hand, but I think you leave your oppponent to make more errors by 3-betting.
