My story in short goes as follows.  Back 4 years ago when i was 16 my friends introduced to be to Texas Hold em Poker.  I started to play their little $10 game and I would get crushed.  I hated it because I saw these friends everyday, so it was a competitive game per say.  Well, me being who I am decided to put an end to this beat down.  My competitiveness took over.  Throughout senior year I started putting hours and hours into research, studying, googling, and reading.  All about poker obviously.  Long story short I got a lot better than them quickly.  In the midst of all this I got attatched to this game and have never looked back.  I have grown to love this game, it is my passion, and I really would have it no other way.  I might say it sucks and has destroyed who I am but thats not so much true.  How far I've come at poker is pretty amazing.  I'm only 20 years old and have hit my share of tournies for the little volume I have played over that stretch.  I have been playing online for about 2 years now and have not been successful.  Not to say I didnt have my chances though.  Being an immature young adult I have no concept of bankroll management.  I dont have the discipline at this point to control myself and my urges.  Staking has helped however staking also is very hard on me because I am someone who feels very stressed and guilty when struggling on someobody elses funds.  In short, playing on someone elses money gets my emotions going a whole hell of a lot more than playing on my own money does.  With my own money my emotions have grown to be pretty calm.  So now I have this predicament.  Cant control my own bankroll, so hard to play on my own funds.  But if I play through someone else I go through days and days of dramatic emotion and stress.  Poker emotion pours out into the rest of my life unfortunately.  If I had a bad day in poker through a stake, anyone who surrounds me will know it for the next 24 hours.  I cant continue with this stress roller coaster.  I probably could use a mental coach, who knows.  But I need to come up with some resolution or else my emotions will affect my game dramatically.  And worse I cant continue with a stress filled life.  It is not healthy at all.  Any tips and advice are greatly appreciated.  That was pretty much the point of this post.  Thanks TPE.

wish i could be 20 again and play poker 😉

i think its always good to remember some fundamentals:

#1 BRmanagement is the most important thing for playing successful – a good guidline is rfb's article here. you have to have the discipline to play within your br and not take too many shots, that definetly will take away some stress

#2 accept variance as it is, there are downswings when you dont cash for 30 tourneys, its tough but you have to get used to it. and always remember variance goes both ways 😉

#3 find sth where you can relax from playing, another hobby or sth that gets your mind away from poker. and a girlfriend is always good.

#4 always learn about the game (warch tpe vids, read articles,…)

and i would recommend especially for the mindthing: listening to tommy angelos eightfold path to poker enlightenment – that helped me a ton!

i think one key with the backing situaton is to always remind yourself that the backers know all about variance and the other aspects of being a backer.  They dont expect you to win ALL the time.  They are very much aware of the situation they are getting in to when they chose to back someone.

Important trait of a successful poker player is to be close to unphasable imo. You watch interviews of pros and what do you notice, they are very even keeled people even after a huge win or big loss. Emotion affects your play tremendously!!! You can start working on your emotion by setting goals. Make yourself shrug and move on instantly when you bust a tourney, get a bad beat, have a losing day, have a winning day, win a big tourney. Do this for a whole week, showing no emotion with win or loss. You will see that putting everything in the past instantly and working on just playing the next game will get you far. This in turn, will work on your overall mood and help prevent poker affecting your everyday life as well.

I myself back players hear and there, and as a backer myself It sounds like whom ever is your backer is maybe putting pressure on you, or maybe not giving you the proper encouragement after bust outs, or maybe not analyszing your bust out hands with you? try and talk with your backer about your issues.

As per your personal issues/ ie. playing with your own money, clearly you recognize your leaks, so why not write them down on a piece of paper and stick reminders on your wall in front of your grind station to avoid these things, maybe stay in your bankroll and only shot take one or two games out of your Br if you are having a good run day or feeling really good/always setting a stop lost point when shot taking or playing outside of your bankroll, and having a plan to recover these funds before you even loose them if something does go wrong in your shot take.

Always be Mentally be prepared to take a cooler / thats a part of the game- before hand going into your shot takes and mentally be prepared before you even do so to drop down and grind er back.

Shot taking every game you play and reloading your account constantly is just a degen thing to do IMO.

Always have a plan for your hands/ sessions/ coolers/ rushes/ ect.

I myself am young also like you, Maybe check out some of Danny13’s videos, just listen to how he talks, takes beats, rushes, coolers when grinding. may help out. Hes only 20ish also eh!

Best of luck to you!
