Alright Jaimie and TPE Family I am back….The last 10 days which is a small sample for some has been a very tough time for me in my 45man sng/mtt world. I play 90% 45man sngs and have been rather successful with them. I started off March on a tear, just for me to come back down to reality with an epic down swing. I lost with KK four times yesterday, QQ vs AQ on the final table, and feel as is I only win a flip 1 out of 5 times. In saying this, I know that it is a matter of volume when playing these and variance is high. I get that.
However durning these downswings, I find myself in the same spot frequently which is near the final table bubble getting ready to play for the money and I get hands where I know I should shove or be aggro with but elect to fold due the fact I know I am going to run in to a monster. I know that this is not the mindset you need when playing and I don't like it. I have memos on my cpu that I look at while playing saying…”Killer Instinct” and “Go For the Win” to tell myself not to play passively, especially the top 3 pay spots is where you want to be. There is a difference of playing aggro smartly and unafraid, and then there is wreckless. I don't think I am wreckless by any means, if anything I am to passive at times and let the blinds go through me.
Now I try to make the right play everytime in the sngs especially due to your stack sizes it is pretty much open/fold, open/jam, or just straight jam or fold. It is not that complicated. I had 3 min cashes yesterday (6th) place, but that is not where I want to be. Some of it was unlucky…I had a smaller ace run in to a bigger ace blind vs blind and QQ couldn't hold vs AQ.
In saying all this, how do you put yourself in the right frame of mind to play at your maximum ability unfraid of any coolers that may be waiting? I think we all sometimes put our villains on a higher range during a hand then we should giving them to much credit when playing post flop, but I think this is something I really need to get going for me to achieve my maximum ability.
I always have the feeling when i get like 8s in mp with 8bb. I know in most conditions this is a jam short handed near the final table or money bubble, but then then the voices start talking to me..”the overpair is waiting!!..or “the suck out is waiting” and I don't' pull the trigger and by doing so allow myself to blind out. On the flip side, lets say the button jams with 8bb and I have 6s in the sb I am afraid to call because I am afraid of flipping and losing.
It is funny because of the rare times I am running well, meaning my hands that are favorites are actually holding (what a concept) I feal indestructable and fearless of the outcome. It is when I am on that down swing that feels as if there is no end in sight is where I feel this way the most.
Again sorry for the rambling post, but any help from you guys would be great! Thanks.
Hey terbet11,
Well I have a Video on the Dare2Dream Program that is all about creating a Pre Game routine. This is where you learn to get yourself in your Peak Perfromance State, which atb the moment, you may not exactly know what that is. In the Video, we help you to decipher what that is so you can begin building your Pre Game Routine.
That sounds like the area that you need to focus on at the moment.
Remember, winning in Poker is making the RIGHT decision, RIGHT NOW. Not whether your hands hold up, as over time you making the RIGHT decision will help you have a nice, healthy BR:)
