Hi Jaime,

I asked Wein about my issued of being afraid at the poker tables, I also tend to clam up when I get deep in an MTT and my thought process gets interrupted and as a result, I can't think straight, and I was wondering if you could give me your thoughts on my situation. I'll just copy / paste what I asked Wein below instead of typing it all over agian.

He gave great advice btw (as always) but I am curious as to what you think about it all.

Thanks for taking the time to reply if you do. Cheers

I am a small stakes / micro stakes MTT player as you may know. I know that ABC poker works best at these levels and recently I have been doing just that with some decent results (even got a WIN in an MTT recently and a few win's in the FTP 3.30 90 man KO's and 5.50 45 man SNGs) but I still have issues late in an MTTs with “freezing up” and i'm not able to think straight when the pressure is on (last few tables of an MTT getting down to the final table etc..)

I find myself nervous, anxious and this interrupts my though processes alot. I also find that im 'afraid' so to speak, to make a big move or big play late in an MTT as I feel like I have invested alot of time and energy into 'making it this far' and I don't want to make a big mistake late and blow my shot at a FT and decent money.

How do you handle/get over/get in the correct mind set/ late in an MTT where you just toss 'fear' out the window?

Here is an example.

Lets say we are down to the last 2 tables in an MTT and there is a guy to my right who is OBV opening alot of pots and being very aggressive, his VPIP/PFR are very high also..he has a big stack, on the button and hes raising applying pressure to everyone..I know he's doing all this, I know hes probably raising 'light' alot of the time but I just can't find a way to pull the trigger and 3-bet him as often as I should (unless I pick up a good hand)

I used to just SHOVE, even over 20bb's, when I though someone was stealing because I was afraid of him flatting my 3-bet and having to play post flop. Again, that 'fear' aspect comes into play and I find that if I don't smash a flop I'm probably folding a lot more then I should. Please help get my mind right.

P.S – I am playing the 1, 2 and 3 dollar MTT's as that is what my bankroll allows me to play atm so playing 'over my buy in' is not the issue but I will admit thought that the money means a lot to me especially when there is the potential to make a 4 or 5 figure score.

Metasploit, Great Post!!

With all my clients, especially Pro Goflers I work with, I get them to create a Mindset of “Play To Win” as opposed to the Mindset of “Play To Not Lose”.

Playing to Win will provide you with the clarity mentally and emotionally to make the RIGHT PLAY-RIGHT NOW!! What we then need to build, is the acceptance to be able to handle the times you dont Win, which for a good MTT player, is 99% of the time.

The article I wrote about GAME,SET-RESET will also help you to be able to play fearless poker down the stretch. Continuing to Reset your emotional state, Reset your position in the tournament, Reset what style of play you need to have RIGHT NOW!!

I want you to be so absorbed with the present that you actually forget about the end result, until the beautiful message flashes accross the screen saying-YOU HAVE WON:)

I also want you to think about what you are fearing? What is the worst thing that could happen in this position? You might find you are scared of something that is not scary at all!!

I want you to go a PLAY TO WIN and focus on making the BEST decision you can-RIGHT NOW!!

GO GET EM:)
