Hi guys,

I wanted to create this post to discuss about the distractions that surround us almost every time we put in a long grind.

What are the type of distractions you guys have, and what do you guys do to solve those?

We can start by the environment we play in. Do you guys play in a room with other people? Are we helping ourselves enough to play 100% of our game?

Lets share ideas and pinpoint some issues.

I have a issue where I need a certain amount of focus and distraction.  After much experimenting, I like to have 1-2 tables up and some old TV show (without commercials) on the third monitor as “white noise”.   Right now its 1950s “Checkmate”.  This helps me avoid other distractions, like replying to this thread.

I have a lot of noise in the house when I grind (wife and 2 kids will do that).  I use headphones and it all goes away.  Put on the same Pandora station and grind away.

ItColumbo: interesting. I may do the same thing when buyins are low, but trying to only listen to music(I think it is effortless and good music puts you in the zone).

Plus, I have no more than 3 tourneys up when buyins total is more than 500$.

EllDan: Arrghh. I dont know how it feels to have a family and play poker, but as long as you do the head phone + pandora thing, and if your wife is bringing you food and give you that extra mood boost that you can use, it should not be as bad, right?

For me, having a wife and son at home when I am grinding is never a bad distraction…sure I may miss a few hands if they need help, but in the long run, having their support and love wins the day.

When I am home alone, I need to keep 2 tables up, and the soul music going on Pandora to really stay in the zone…I try to keep plenty of water/home-made jerky in my office.

My biggest distraction is easily twitter or getting text updates from friends grinding as well…
