Hey TPE,

I am playing in my first WSOP event in Palm Beach for the circuit. I have played live cash ($1-$2) and typical daily tourneys in FL, the mid west, and the North east for about a year now with buy-ins $600 and under. I am playing Event 3, 2 day, $580 buy-in. As this is likely to be the toughest field I have played against, I was wondering if any of you would be willing to give me some advice. Not necessarily hand playing strategy, rather what to expect atmosphere wise and how to get mentally prepared for a 2 day ring event.

I appreciate any insight!

Besides the usual mental stuff (eating and sleeping properly etc.), I’m guessing the structure is deeper than daily tournaments in your neck of the woods. Watch some early stage videos on here because you’re actually going to get to play a little poker early on, before having to depend on push/fold stuff like you do most of the time in the shallower, quicker paced dailies.

Be sure to have fun. Remember everyone acts because of something they want. It won’t be about you.

Thank you for the tip Shitshow! I could definitely use some deep stacked study. You are right. I get a lot of push/fold practice.

As Joel said, rule #1 is have fun! Also, early on the competition may not be as tough as you are expecting. But take some time to figure that you, because it varies a lot in the circuits. You’ll know pretty quickly who the regs are and who the rec players are.

Good luck!
