Hey TPE nation! I’ve been playing poker for about 7 years mostly live cash and pokerstars tourneys briefly 4 years ago with good results in the $4.40 160. I have been a poker dealer in Louisiana the past two years and want to start making tournaments my choice of playing. What is the online poker room I should be playing on? Have researched black chip, America’s cardroom, and lock. Thanks to everybody who replies! Have watched the getting started tpe u vids the past week and can’t wait to get started online again

don't play on lock. they have cashouts pending for over a year at this point. they changed their software a few months ago. rumor is they have no money. i stopped paying attention when i got rid of my funds because it was just sad. sometime over the summer they went on a staff retreat thing but had cashouts pending for like this huge amount of time at that point, so really unless they appear to have no money (but also given that it's not necessary this is true to see what we've seen)

black chip poker on americas card room (i think thats the network. sorry been out of the loop for a bit, but these were the sites a few months ago)- really good tournaments/structures but i think it has a small schedule. nearly all tournaments are re-entry but i think for 65 minutes.

bovada is anonymous, has the biggest mtt schedule that US players can find really, and quick quick cashouts because their primary business is as a sports betting site. no re-entry. incredibly soft

poker host is the merge site i had played on most recently for poker maximus in august/september. they issued me a check that cleared my account in under 2 weeks. they needed to refund my original deposit back to my card for some reason, which took a little bit longer, but it all worked out smoothly when i spoke to them. they have kind of bigger tournaments at varying buyin levels, but it's probably a flawed system that's bad overall for the recreational field in that there's 4 hours of late reg/re-entry. a lot of their games have the great “deep” structure which is 250bb starting stack 15 minute levels. well it takes 4 hours for that stack to become 5bb and you have dudes regging all the way through, which in theory is good in short term (basically as it happens its good) for good players because those regging have a far reduced chance of making money. so as people reg/tilt-rereg at the <10bb mark, theyre sort of giving the prizepool more money. the pool can be gtd at 8k, not hit 8k til right before registration ends, but its worth slightly more than an 8k freezeout because those that late reg during times they no longer have a skill edge (this could vary but 20bb and lower for fish etc) are doing so at a higher cost than you. their chips are worth less than your chips were worth at the beginning of the tournament. icm won't be an overwhelming factor (it's still nonzero because thats how tournaments function), but yah. simply put, rec gambling players blow through their bankrolls faster. rec players that don't have 4+hours to dedicate to a tournament will play at a lower propensity, whereas they would normally join a tournament with 1 hour of late reg that lasts 4+ hours.

but ya, above all, don't play on lock. i made a cashout request for 2500 back in march last year. in june, i saw that people had been waiting for like 6+ months at that time, so i canceled it and sold it at a huge loss because i needed the money and lock didn't have signs of improving.

hope this helps! gl

Welcome!  While Merge offers the best software imo, i think True Poker has the best cashout times and even a better schedule and softer fields.  If you get their debit card you can cash out in TWO DAYS.

Some info on getting rakeback with them if you are interested:

I second everything Killingbird has said. Especially the part about Lock. Have had a cash out pending since July and have a nice roll stuck there. I mainly play carbon poker(merge network) and true poker(winning network). Bovada has nice soft tournaments but they do not have synchronized breaks. That’s a deal breaker for me. I like being able to walk away for 5 minutes every hour.

I play exclusively on Bovada.  They have soft fields and anonymous players.  By anonymous I mean that every tournament that you sign into your “screen name” is the number that you signed into the tournament.  So if you were the 301st player to register, your screen name for that mtt is “301”.  Any notes that you take during your session are wiped clean as soon as you or the other player busts, even if that player is playing on another table durning the same time.

A lot of guys don't like this, but I love it.  I have a tracking software called “Tournament Indicator”, which isn't the best tracking software, but to my knowledge it's the only one that works on Bovada, giving me a distinct advantage.  The stats are reset after each session on Tournament Indicator, except for your own.

I would recommend that you sign up for all of the sites mentioned, and play in the play money section for a while in each one.  It will give you a feel for the software and such, giving you time to learn the ins and outs of each site before you put money on there.

Good luck and let us know where you pick and why!
