Hi Guys,

So I’ve been watching poker for years now whether its on youtube, live events or on twitch. I have played poker throughout that time also but very sporadically. I’ve never really thought about giving it a serious shot until now. I enjoy the game and know that with my educational drive and ambition i can easily make money if i put the hours into learning the fundamentals.

I know a few things here and there but very basic stuff. of course i understand how poker is played and the basic poker talk.

I’m here to ask for some advice in regards to tournament play. i want to learn everything but don’t know where to start.

Can anyone give me a run down on where to start and where to progress from there?

I need to the the math side of poker (equity etc…)

I need to learn pre flop, post flop strats etc etc.

I need to learn it all.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Jamie

Hey Jamie,

Well, you are on the right site to start.  Initially I would start at very low stakes whether it’s online or LIVE.  I would start by trying to play some kind of small daily in a casino if there are any by you.  Find something small online to play as well.  Maybe try PLAY money at first to get a feel of things and slowly move up.  Take everything you see in the videos on this site and learn from everyone.  Take it slow, you’re not going to get everything all at once.

Definitely start with Andrew’s “Getting off on the right foot” series on this site! I think if you filter for Andrew Brokos as the pro and TPE theory as the topic you should find it on the first or second page. I’d also look at his simplified hand reading series. I’d watch both before watching any hand history reviews. You’ll get more out of them.

I’d also encourage you to disabuse yourself of the notion that you can “easily” make money. You CAN make money, and being here is a great first step in that process, but it will take a great deal of hard work to consistently win money.

I agree that series from Andrew is a GREAT place to start!
