Hi,
My name is Gerry and I am from BC Canada where I am a carpenter by trade
I have a wife and 2 preteen kids.
I have been playing poker as recreation since about 2008. I started out with a free $10 gift from microgaming back in the day and was lucky to have never had to deposit. I played limit poker in the beginning and raked hand freerolls to build my initial BR. I switched to NLH a few years ago and have fooled around with SNGs as well but mainly have made $ through NLH.
I pulled out 80% of my BR out over a year ago and wasnt sure if I wanted to keep playing but left $ on PS and FTP. Of course my FTP $ is stuck like everyone elses, at least until Nov. according to the reports. So I should have around 2k for a starting bankroll.
Ok , now to the why I am thinking of doing the MTT route. I thought I could make a part time income at NLH but I just couldnt seem to get there I found the amount of time I was putting in just wasnt worth what I was getting back and it eventually got too frustrating so that is why I took the break a while back. I started playing again and have come to the conclusion that I really just enjoy playing the game and although I want to win in the end it is a hobby and I will be satisfied with that.
I think back to when I first started playing and really what I remember is making a few final tables in those raked hand freerolls and how exciting that was. I never did win one (2nd place twice) but my fondest memories of poker are these deep runs.
The tough part for me will be time management with my family. I hope there are guys and gals here that have families as well and I would really appeciate how you sort out your schedule to make it work. Which tournaments to play ect.
Also I have played the odd MTT as of late and I really suck so any help on how to start would be appeciated as well.
Thanks for reading
Gerry

Welcome sir….I'm from BC as well….good to have a fellow west coaster here. I'm a married carrer guy (no kids yet) so I know what you are saying about balance. It's an awesome hobby (what other hobby has the potential to make money) to have, but a major time comittment as going deep means a larger # of hours put in.
I think the best thing to do is put aside some “you” time….trade it off with your wife for some “her” time. Pick the day that works best for your and research the tourney schedule. If you want some smaller fields, try “Play Now” from BCLC (sorry, only the BC'rs will know that one). It has very small fields, and TERRIBLE players (unfortunately terrible software to go along….but oh well).
Cheers and welcome to TPE….

Hey, thanks for replying. I will check out that play now site. I have seen the commercials for it. My nephew played on the site for a while and then got banned for typing in the chat “this is BS” when he took a bad beat lol. He also said the compitition was soft.
I am from the Abbotsford area, where are you from?
