Evening guys.

I’m a casual player from England, and never thought about learning poker properly until now. “You’re in the right place, I hear you say”. Well, how about a little bit of background information to explain my motivation for joining…

In my early 20s, a few friends used to have a home game that I’d frequent. I never really learnt the theory of poker, rather I’d just play the hands I was dealt having a basic understanding of what hands beat what. I stopped playing about 10 years ago when that group of friends went their separate ways.

About 6-12 months ago I popped to a local casino one night to take part in a cheap buy-in tournament.

It was brutal. I was destroyed. The bigger boys were mean bullies and took all my lunch money. They didn’t hold back with their thoughts on my amateurish play either.

Now I have a very competitive nature and since that night I decided that I’d research the mistakes they laughed at me for making and try to learn the game properly. So I’ve spent the last year or so reading every book I can get my hands on, reading 2+2 over and over, listening to every Thinking Poker podcast I could download (that’s how I found you guys), and watching all WSOP episodes on YouTube.

So now I’m at a point where I’m getting better but want to get even better. I’m still a small fish in a big pond, I know this, but this fish is making final tables now rather than busting out before the first break.

That’s me. Tell me about you. Hopefully, I’ve found the right place to continue my development.

Adam.

The best motivation to improve your game is that competitive nature you speak of.  If you can’t stand losing, you will find a way to win!  Good luck and keep us posted on results!

Thanks man, just working my way through the videos here. Looking for a good pre-flop strategy series, anything you’d recommend?

IGT aka I GRIND THIS did a good series on 180 man turbos. He was a big name in those games when I started playing them. They are a great way to learn ICM push/fold,  and these games are mainly about preflop shove ranges, at least from mid stages onwards.

I must say I find it interesting that you specify preflop as your area of interest. Preflop is the easier strategy to master. Postflop is where the intellectual battles take place…

Grab yourself a Nash shove chart. Jennifear produced some good ones…I don’t have the link just Google Jennifear Nash shove charts.

Probably aren’t so many video series specifically targeting preflop.
