Hey guys, just signed up and decided to present you with probably my worst-played hand of all-time! Here we go….
Villain in hand is weakish/breakeven player, has been playing all kinds of pots and had a ridiculous flop Af of like 9. Hadn’t folded to a CB yet.
I had been playing tight/solid.

Pre Flop: (t300) Hero is BTN with K 4
6 folds,
“I have button, I’m the bigstack, I have a tight image, whatever, I steals.”
Hero raises to t449.00, 1 fold, BB calls t249
Flop: (t998) 9 7 4 (2 players)
BB checks,
“Bottom pair vs. roughly any two is pretty much the nuts. No point in checking back.”
Hero bets t499.00, BB raises to t1300.00,
“Hmm…that’s weird. Could he have flatted an overpair? Well, he has a 3B of 10%, so I really doubt it. That also takes out 999 and probably 777. There’s only one combo of 444, and why would he check/raise such a dry board when I most likely wiffed? Same logic for top two, and no other two pair combo really makes sense, even in the BB. Maybe a single pair? Well no, that would be stupid. There’s no draws out there, so it’s only going to contort my range into stuff that beats him. I guess he might have some kind of weird straight draw, but wow, look at that flop Af. I just don’t believe him. Nothing makes sense.
Hero calls t801
Turn: (t3598) 3 (2 players)
BB bets t1859.00,
“Well, 65 just got there, but that’s such a tiny part of his range, compared to all the air he could have. Step 1: Call, Step 2: …. Step 3: Profit! Sounds great.”
Hero calls t1859
River: (t7316) 5 (2 players)
BB bets t3038 all in, Hero tanks…
“Wow, he insta-shoved that river. Any 6 makes a straight. He could still have 65, but again, his range is really wide. What about other 6’s? 76? No. 86? I guess maybe, but I doubt it. 96? No. 64? No. Maybe A6? But he shoved so quick…if he really binked a backdoor gutshot like that, he’d probably at least think about it for a few seconds. Is he shoving anything else for value? No way, because I’d obviously call with any 6, but not much else. OTOH, if he check/calls, he still loses to all my 6’s, but wins against anything I turn into a bluff. He must be airballing. This is going to be the sickest call of all time…”
Hero calls t3038
Final Pot: t13392
Hero shows Kd 4h
BB shows 8h 9s (Pair of Nines)
BB wins t13392.00
“I’m a dumbass.”
Hero /ragequits, signs up for TPE.
Anyway, basic background: built my bankroll from $0 through freerolls on Stars starting back in 2008, and crushed the low stakes games there for a couple of years. Then I tried to transition into cash game for flexibility reasons for the next year and a half, and had regular success up to NL25. But MTTs are more my style, and now I'm trying to make the jump into mid-to-higher stakes MTTs. Looking forward to being a member here!
