Hi everybody. My name is Nelson. I have been playing poker on and off for about 7 years, quite sporadically, recreationally i guess. This past November however, I had knee surgery. I had an ACL reconstruction, which came with a 4 month recooperation period. During this time I couldnt really do much so I decided to bear down on my poker skills and grind tournament tables. I don't really know what level to classify myself. I thought I knew how to play the game of poker, but the more I learn, the more I learn that I didnt know much at all.
This winter after getting beaten down and picking myself up numerous amounts of times, I finally shipped a good score, a bankroll to play with. It was a $1rebuy, 3 X turbo, 24K guarantee. Winning this tournament changed how I thought of myself as a player and how I viewed the game. Now instead of going back into the shark pool, I thought maybe I should start exploring my options a bit, make some better decisions on how to invest this egg. I live in Lethbridge AB, and one of my friends was telling me about this Jaime Staples character and how he does this streaming thing…..i was like wtf you talking about Willis. Checked it out, suscribed to him, chatted him up and he pointed me to TPE. I then suscribed to the Bigdog's channel. The site works. The streams are a gem. I have made some adjustments to my game and I'm going deeper into tourneys….and Ive only been a member for a few weeks. The results are really incredible, and I'm very satisfied with my memebership. Yesterday I even shipped a small Courchevel $1 rebuy 3 X turbo. Didnt really know what I was doing to tell you the truth…..but winning was fun.
I just wanted to thak all the pros on this site for sharing their knowledge of the game, everyone is very approachable and friendly, even other members….the TPE family is awesome. Ive even met other members playing on tables, on Twitch, its really cool. Its a lot of fun watching live hands on Twitch, Ive watched the BigDoggs and Killingbird slay a lot of hands on their and its always entertaining. Anybody who isnt on there, I highly reccomend it. Killingbird…..I'm just waiting to suscribe though man….haha
The weakest part of my game right now, other then post flop action is when I'm deep deep into a tourney with lots and lots of BBs and I start going card dead, at least thats how it feels. I call it the twilight zone. I start getting impatient, loosening up a bit too much, defending blinds, stabbing at pots that I shouldnt even be in. The other day I was playing the big 8.80 and had a great stack, but I felt myself sliding down that slope. I just happened to be on the bigdogs stream and someone was talking about late stage play lol…..and I was like I could sure use some advice, cuz I'm only in the early stages part of the university. So i casually asked Casey like what do I do I'm going crazy…..feels like I'm card dead and being stupid……his simple but brilliant reply….”dont worry, you got lots of time, youre super deep” That simple reassurance of just playing my game, just keep er tight, pick my spots rolled me to a 12th spot finish. At the time I was pissed I didnt make final, but it was a good run in retrospect. Caseys simple piece of advice though, attributes to the class and knowledge that this site has to offer. Love watching the streams and I'm just grateful for the experience.
