Hi everyone from England 🙂

I just recently got Pokertracker 4 and a new computer but havent even installed it yet but couple things bugging me

When someone shoves allin with say 12bb with antes from early position how can I judge his range ? and will my hud help or can I only guesstimate? as you can tell im very confused

what I mean so im clear is

a hes new to the table
b hes very tight player
c hes loose

If you can point me to a video on here that explains this be cool or how do you know or cant you know without experience its been going around an around in my head for days now so had to come out was going to post it as a hand replay but havent got that far yet

a tip from me if your new to PT4 the following video (series) is fantastic I stumbled upon it by accident ive only seen part 1 so far

…..ns-part-1/ hope its ok to post that here

cheers & thanks !cool

Well, a HUD will help you somewhat, in that you can see how aggro or who tight a player is from that position. But its going to depend a lot on how many hands you have on that person and also you “assumptions” on how competent they are. Competent players are going to be shoving “more correctly” so you can utilize a shove chart to determine what that range of hands might look like.

Hope that makes sense!

Hey Gary I am also from UK! Great to see so many Brits!

Yes as KB said, if you think the villain is competent, you can assume he is shoving close to optimally. So if you grab yourself a Nash push/fold chart (Google Jennifear’s push/fold charts/ blonde poker…I don’t have the link but you will find it I am sure!), you can range him/her from that. Your HUD’s VPIP/PFR stats will give you a good idea of whether villain is very tight/ very loose/ average etc… It is all about building a picture. But you will need at least 100 hands per individual villain to get any decent read from VPIP/PFR.

I can’t get too into the definitions now as I am playing Doom on my PS4! It’s a classic mate!

But Google the definitions and you’ll have plenty to keep you busy!

Hi Riceman

Thanks & im up North just south of Manchester in Stockport

I wouldnt like to say if he was competent or not im not good enough to judge quite yet !!!

from memory he was quite tight..it turns out he had 77 but dunno if thats near bottom of his range or top..thinking about it more he was prolly not that competent (but I could be wrong of course)

Hey Gary,

77 is pretty much slap bang in the middle of his push range here, if he is shoving a Nash range. From UTG+1 with a 12bb stack and 10% antes, my chart tells me I can shove a 13.7%range. 22+, a9s+,kqo, q9s+, tjs+ t9s, ajo.

So 77 lies in the middle of the range.

For hero’s call according to Nash to be correct, villain needs to be shoving an appropriate Nash range.

it was kind of a winner takes all tournament so does ICM apply at any point ?

mybe at Heads up? i really dont know I dont understand ICM yet

so if ICM does apply what hands are you calling the allin with here ?

and

if ICM doesnt apply which hands you callin an allin ?

Think I made a sizeable mistake well I know I did if ICM applies

I know I need 41.9% to break even this is with no ICM

is 55+,A9s+,KJs+,ATo+,KQo (11.2%)

or 66+,AJs+,AQo+ (6.8%) the correct range to call allin with ?

thanks

Wow! Who’s the new player here? I’ve only just started taking equity %’s seriously.

I’ll have to think about your last post. To answer your penultimate post, I am unsure in truth about ICM considerations in a winner take all… My strong feeling is that ICM is negligible/ non existent in a WTA. For sure heads up ICM has no application…you’re just playing for chips heads up. I’ll have to Google it.

Regarding equity, I am really not the best person to ask. I have literally only just started taking equity calculations seriously. I would just tell you to do the wrong thing probably!

To be honest, I just use an app to tell me what %range I can call a specific BB shove with from each position. But I believe you can get Nash calling charts which will tell you the same.

What position were you in?
