Hi , you may see me on stars as “thejaconator”. Off the tables, I am a 22-year-old french-speaking Montrealer and undergrad temporary drop-out.
I made my first deposit back in 2009 on stars and played horribly and slowly over the following 3 years, never really dedicating myself to poker. I took the game very seriously for a 1-2 month period in the summer of 2012, playing exclusively husngs. I watched a bunch of videos on husng and read several bits of poker literature, mostly recently. I resumed my poker “career” in late December and have played the vast majority of my lifetime volume in this recent 3 month period, with more than half of that volume being in husngs.
Overall, I have net losses (where it matters) but I believe that I have become a half-decent poker player and that I am capable of profiting at the microstakes at this point. The problem is that I have changed games too many times to grind out a truly representative sample in any single game. Other than husngs, I have played 9-man, 18-man, 45-man and 180-man sngs. After having some success over a tiny sample of about 600 husngs, I decided to play a few MTTs just for fun and got hooked. I am having a lot a fun now because playing heads up, a format that punishes you much more for being terrible, has forced me to learn the game and think about it more deeply, and I am seeing how what I learned about husngs can be interpreted and applied to MTTs. And I'm attracted to the higher potential ROI in MTTs.
