Hey TPE family, glad to be aboard and plan to have a great long term relationship!!
I am from Virginia (so as well all know the hunt for Live games is quite rough) but have a local game here that runs 4 times a week. They have a once a month tourney with a $140 buy-in and about 70 to 80 runners. So I will go through a hand that I involved in and would like some feedback (I am always open to any type of criticism)…
Have been somewhat inactive for most of the game, just can't get 2 cards that amount up to anything, so slightly dead (if there is really any such thing) and only raked in about 4 pots until now in 300/600 level (no antes in this game). Here is how the plays out:
Hero (high jack): 16K
Villain 1 (cut-off): 35K – Just came to table no history
Villain 2 (SB): 28K – Defends almost anything in Blinds
Hero K9 : opens for 1300
Villain 1: Calls 1300
Villain 2: Calls 1300
Total Pot: 4500
Flop: 5JJ
Villain 2: Bets 1600
Hero: Calls 1600
Villan 1: Calls 1600
Total Pot: 9300
Turn: Q
Villain 2: Checks
Hero: Bets 3500
Villain 1: Calls 3500
Villan 2: Tanks.. Calls 3500
Total Pot: 19800
River: 7
Villan2: Checks
Hero: Checks
Villan 1: Bets 5K
Villan 2: Folds
Hero: Tanks… Folds Face UP!!
Villan: Shows AK and says How the **** do you fold that!!
So my question here is where was my mistake? Pre is OK and pretty standard. My thoughts on the way home (after shoving QQ and losing to QT) while analyzing my night was, I should have just stuffed the turn almost knowing the SB was calling with a set of J's. I was really unsure what the cutoff had on the turn, but knew I was dead on the river. But when he showed me his hand I was really unsure how he got that far in the hand, his comment to me was ” Sorry man for that price I wasn't going to fold”… I laughed and said ” Where on the flop or the turn?”……….
Welcome to TPE!. not sure if they'll move this to the strategy thread as there is where most hands get reviewed (and you'll get more answers), but FWIW
- I think with 3 players and a paired board I play the hand usually betting stronger on the turn, since there is 9300 and I have about 13100 I would probably shove hoping for 2 folds or 3 Jacks /worst flushes calling me. Especially since V2 seems like a calling station (from your comments and his comments).
- He is right though that for a 3rd of the pot on the turn with the nut flush draw he can profitably call IF he gets your money on a diamond, (so correct call if you include implied odds) , but since you made a great fold (and assuming you would make it each time) his call is -EV.
