Hello TPE nation!

Longtime listener to the podcasts, I was a member of Cardrunners for a while then I made the switch to this site because all I play is MTTs.  I am a fireman, pilot, and card magician, but my true passion is poker.  My goal is to transition into being a professional tournament player in 6 years (my 40th birthday).  I love MTTs, and I love to win.  There's no feeling like shipping a tournament!

I am a NLH grinder on Bovada, and I use the tracking software “Tournament Indicator” to track my opponents and my play.  I play 1 to 2 tables at a time, $2-$20 buy-ins (my bankroll on Bovada is $2000); I play about 60 hours a month and see around 3000-4000 hands per month.

I am looking to find other grinders who play on Bovada, and talk strategy and hands.  If anyone is interested to talk over hands that you have, or just want to talk strategy, I'm in.  I know that to get good at something you have to surround yourself with others who want to get good as well.  I believe that's true with anything in life, and poker is no different.  Shoot me a message or reply here!

Have a great day and I look forward to talking to you.

Hi Sigaba,

Welcome to TPE! I'm a Bovada grinder as well, specifically playing Turbos right now. I was into card magic for a long time  – actually sold a lot of my magic collection to build a poker bankroll 🙂 Would be happy to chat anytime! I'm on the East Coast (NC) and usually play the nightly turbos starting around 9pm.

Good to hear from you Jason!  That's cool you're into magic too.  Maybe we can trade tricks.  I know quite a few and I'm sure if you had a magic collection, you know quite a few as well!  Mine are mostly card tricks; some coin tricks too.

You're probably grinding right now.  It's about 11:40pm your time.  I'm in California.  Just finished up a session.  I played 2 mtts and got 3/194 and 20/902.  It was a good night!  Nice for a change – I was on a lull for a while.

I have a few hands that I would love to go over.  Do you have any?

Where is the best place for you to chat?  Here, or over skype, or over the phone?  Doesn't matter to me, I just want to talk poker.

Have a good night.  ttyl

Hey Steve, Jason. Since we're most of the bovada grinders on this site, I thought I'd jump in here lol. If you're interested, Weeeeee and myself are playing during the bovada series that just started, and plan to discuss hands and whatnot as we go before/after our sessions. Maybe we can get a skype group chat going. my skype handle is jacob.tryba

now that i think about it, anyone grinding this bovada series (looking at you chuck) that wants to jump in on the chat go for it. i'll be on later tonight and will look for a way to set up a room chat.

Not a fan of Bovada. I like my breaks on the hour. Wife didn’t like the pee bottle.

Yah I suppose if you don't have a laptop you're quite limited in that regard. I think the lack of break alignment proves my point about this site even further. They aren't catering to us. They're catering to the sports betting money holding (but not for long) gamblers. The site is soft because the site does a lot of things that regs dont like. Anonymizing tables, keeping scattered breaks, these things aren't on accident. They're trying to keep us out. Your pee bottle comment reminded me of the time I had a stomach virus who's symptons showed up for the first time in the middle of the poker maximus $215 main event. Like final 3 or 4 tables left, I have to run to the bathroom and we had yet to get wifi in our new place, so I was using this long ethernet cable. I heard the beeps, so I'd jump off the toilet and grab my laptop and bring it as close to the bathroom as possible. I was actually able to get it to the doorway, and no one was home, but it was hilarious. I got AA utg and almost timed out! If I remember correctly, they all folded pre anyway, but it was one of those big moments for me.

I'm probably going to start playing on Bovada at some point.  The field is soft and I don't care about the downsides that much.  If I have to pee I'll just do it when I'm UTG and would fold most of the time anyway.

I like Bovada for the reasons you guys described.  It keeps a lot of the regs out.  By having anonymous players, HEM and PT don't work.  But there is one tracking software that does work … Tournament Indicator.  I think that by having that software it gives you a huge edge against the competition.

Hey just saw this! The ante-up tournament was a lot of fun. No one really made improper adjustments by folding too much to opens, though there certainly was folding. After a bit, I reverted to just playing a push/fold game because I felt like I probably could squeeze some sort of edge from that. As long as I had less than 5x the size of the pot, I shoved all in from most position. It was really easy in the mid stages to do from hj moving forward. You increased your stack by 20% or more each time it got through. I think I busted TT<AQ or something like that? I was focused more on the 25k and 10k that particular night. I believe that's the day I got 2nd in the 10k and ran deep in the 25k.

I haven't played a ton of contenders because there are only 2 or 3 per day I'm home during, while side games and dailies are somehow doing much better than usual. I did get 21st I think in the $16.50 turbo deep stack contender event. At the bubble, I had like 9bb and was 8th in chips. The bubble effectively wiped out multiple levels of play because players stalled so much squeezing into that mincash with 5bb or under. There's not a ton of room to exploit this because the bubble only lasts like 5 hands still lol.

the tournament that story was referring to, i sadly lost a flip in 15th. open jammed KQs < TT but sick sweat flop. JTxss. Turn was an ugly x or J though so it was donezo. First paid $55k. That was the closest I think I've ever been to a 5 figure score. Top 3 in the $125+9 75k I played a long while ago had like 3 of 9 make more than $10k each, and I think I got 7th in that table.

Me too, yet to cash a 5 figure.  My biggest cash so far is $3300.  I've been so close to to four figures, but it's just slipped away every time!  Sometimes I will get to a final table and everyone wants to chop so we all get like 2k, but I never agree.  I always want the win.

Isn't that the whole point of the game?  To win?  Why else do you play tournaments?  It's like getting down to the last two teams in the playoffs and instead of having a SuperBowl they just decide to shake hands and call it a tie.  LOL.  What's the point of that?

And first place is where the money is.  I feel like if the guys are asking to chop, they must feel like they have a disadvantage.  Which means I am the favorite.  I'm not going to give up that edge.  Maybe my mind with change with time, but the reason I play is to win the tournament.  Win, win, win, all the time.  Not sometimes, everytime.

I feel like grinding now.  I'm going to go play some cards laugh
