Hi Everyone,
Let me start off by saying I would consider myself a min cash whore, lobby checking specialist. Throw the odd deep run in which I would see me lose my tits when we got down to the last few tables. Fist pumping at the sight of some gorgeous premium pair, mounting my imaginary bull and bucking it around the lounge in celebration that I got all my chips in pre-flop and expecting my laptop to fall off the desk due to all the animated cyber chips being stacked at my end of the virtual felt. Only to bust and claim back a few buy ins. I had been away from online MTT’s for the last two years but with the imminent arrival of our daughter I thought I would use this foolproof tactic to turn over some extra pennies to help.
In my mind I thought this will be a piece of cake. The strategy always discussed was a TAG approach. Nit it up, only play premiums, don’t bluff because you’ll only want to slap yourself stupid when you get called down with 5th pair or A high and don’t bet unless you have it. That should do it. First of all though I’ll watch a couple of videos over at TPE to quench my thirst for returning and then I’ll be off without a care in the world.
Signing up without a second thought I fired up some Andrew Brokos videos, he seems like a decent bloke and he post’s a lot so he’ll fire up my loins to min cash to my hearts content. Full of passion and desire to get started Andrew then reached into his inside jacket pocket, pulled out a huge, long, thick, wet trout and slapped me right across the face with it. “Game Theory.”
A term I had never heard and quite frankly did not want to hear as it contradicted so many of the theories I had read in previous literature and obliterated the very idea I had of a successful strategy. I sat there for a few minutes open mouthed and pondering my entire existence before it dawned on me. “Maybe this is the reason I have been like a human version of Chase from “The Micro’s” for so long. So I dug a little deeper and listened to some Thinking Poker Podcast, which then led me on to Play optimal poker. I was in a glass case of emotion. There I was thinking I was half decent when it turns out I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. It seems things have evolved tremendously since I last played and there is more than enough to learn but my mindset has changed in such a way that I need to study hard and make some life changing adjustments if I am to be a profitable player.
Andrew has well and truly assaulted me both psychologically and egotistically yet I wish I could reach across the pond and waft the wide branch of a palm tree over his face whilst he is fed grapes by the person of his dreams. We are yet to truly get started at the virtual online felt but when we get in the swing of things I feel better in the knowledge that I put a damn sight more thought into the decisions I am making.
Times are tough folks but where one door closes another one open. I hope everyone is ok and their families are well.
Much Love
Gav

I wouldn’t get too worried about pimping up your Brokos and then polishing it until it gleams brighter than any other, it took me half a century even to understand a sentence he spoke. I think it is true to say most of us mortals are not anywhere near Andrew in terms of thought process.
Then again, I am on a personal mission to stop the deification of Andrew in poker, I fear he is in danger of losing his earthly body and being hoisted on to an ethereal pedestal where everybody can gather and worship His Greatness at the Shrine Of Brokos., whereupon he might end up getting big-headed.
Although I love him and consider him a genius, the man is not a god. Yet.
