Playing in .1/.25 on stars, I won a big pot but probably didn’t play the hand very well.  The villain is new to the table and I’ve never seen him before. There was some (possibly flawed) logic to my decisions… I didn’t think I had enough fold equity on the turn to raise and thought that if my hand improved I could get more out of him. On the river I thought that I beat 2/3 of his value range and that he would struggle to fold any of it, especially as it’s quite hard to put me on a hand. I would almost always raise 99/77/T8 on the turn. Is this thinking ok or is playing a hand like this out of position a bit spewy?

I’d fold pre-flop and fold flop, but river is good, very good in fact.

Thanks. I agree preflop, I play too many hands from the big blind and am too sticky when I flop middle pqir in multiway pots. What do you think about the turn call? Should I just fold here as well as my hand is never good or is worth calling to hit one of my outs and win a much bigger pot?

I’ve been trying to implement some of the ideas from Getting Paid and that was what was behind the river play…. it’s a move I probably wouldn’t have made a couple of weeks ago. It’s got me into a bit of trouble though a couple of times though trying to extract too much value and maybe overplaying my hand so still a work in progress!

Other than completing a few straights it’s a good turn for you, and it’s still a tough decision. That’s why calling the flop is tricky.

If you know V is going to pay you off when you hit, it makes it easier to call the turn, but against a typical opponent I agree that a fold is best because the implied odds are too low.
