After a less  than stellar September I have reverted to grinding low limit cash to build my MTT roll back up. I have mainly been playing ipoker (non-USA) because of it's amazingly soft games.

Does anyone else here play cash either as a way to take a break from MTT's or to build/re-build a bank roll? What sites do you play/stakes/6max/FR ….

yes i also do play cash and SNG's sometimes to build my roll back up. i play mostly on Absolute poker, the only thing with cash is that you can make quick $ and lose $ quick lol.  i like to play 6 max cash and 1 table SNG's (cash–.10-.25nl,  sng–5$-20$)cool

I play 50 nl, 100 nl, and 50 PLO regularly. I'll takes shots at 200 nl and 100 PLO when I see fish and can get a good seat at the table to the left of the fish.

Make sure you're doing this on a site where you have rakeback. That's pretty key.

So far this month I'm up 1 buy-in with actual poker play (in hold em, I'm up decently in PLO) but I've played so many hands that I've already accumulated a buy-in worth of rakeback, too.

All my play is 6 max.

If you want to build a roll back the easiest way is multitable DONS

Double or nothing SNGs , at least I am pretty sure thats what he means. Those that you enter 10 handed and the top 5 double their buy in. I played a few a while back and they seemed a fairly low variance way to grind a roll out, but you have to play a shitload of them.

I cannot mentally take playing cash. I can have a 7-8k roll and be playing NL50 and getting stacked for a buy in mentally tilts me worse than wiffing an entire session for 4-5 times that much. Not sure why, but it does. When my roll takes a hit, like it has the last couple months, I mix in more of the 45 man SNGs on FTP. They play super soft, no antes, and are a pretty easy way for someone with a solid understanding of stacks and bubble play to get back in the swing, especially in thos times when the runbad brings on the playbad. They are good for me to regain confidence. Cash does the opposite for me at least.

Double or Nothing SNGs. Where half the field gets twice their buy in back.

Like Nairb said, I don't see the value in playing DoN's unless you can do hundreds of them.

But they're super exploitable…

I grind low stakes cash games as well, it is great for building a bankroll. DONS are a good idea too but as mentioned you need to do a few at a time.

The DONs aren't bad, but get ready for what is going to be a seriously boring session. Play in them to be profitable is super tight and fairly robotic. It will take a phenominal volume to get yourself moving, but it can be done. Something that I have used which works pretty well are single table SnGs on Stars (3.40 and 6.50 turbos) are really beatable and will help quite a bit with building your knowledge and comfort with push/fold as well.

DoN's are the absolute worst form of poker IMO. I used to 12-16 table the $5's on Stars and they are sick. I had about a 3% ROI where the SS leaders were prob. around 7-9%, for those stakes. I played thousands and time spent vs profit just is not worth it in those games. Not to mention the possibility of collusion…see Chinese DoN collusion thread on 2+2. I received a couple of small 'administrative credits' for being fortunate enough to play in a few games where collusion was present.

Higher ROI's would be possible on sites like Titan (ipoker) but the volume of games is too small.

TY for the suggestions. I have been playing some more 90-180 man games to lower the variance. As well as playing guarantee $ tourneys on smaller sites with softer and smaller fields.

lol i seem to play SNGs and tourneys to build my roll after spewing off in cash games 😀

i think i am with Nairb – losing a buyin at 50NL tilts me a lot more than losing 5 $10 tourneys, not sure why

i would recommend turbo 6max sngs. you still have to grind a lot of them, but you will get a higher ROI than DoNs and i think they are less susceptible to collusion (although you could still encounter it)

I play mostly  25/50 and 50/1 7-Game cash and am actually here to get into playing more multi table tourneys. I usually play 18 and 27 man sng's but i suck at the 45's lol

I've played cash for a living for the past 3 years so if anyone has any questions just send me a PM or whatever, I'd be glad to help.

Does anyone here play turbo HU SNGs? I was reading about strategy for this on riskoriented.com and they seem interesting because you can grind so many so fast but the variance has to be ridiculous.
