Ok, I have been grinding a lot of cash games lately at my local casino. 2/3 NL, all 3 of us have about $300 behind. UTG+1 makes it $20 to go. I have played with him a fair amount. He's loose, gambles, bluffs, and in this spot I put him on a range of 44+, A9s+, ATo+, KJs+. It folds to a guy in LP who calls. I don't have a read on this LP player. He just sat down, and I've never played with him before. He's heavy set, in his late 40s. He was talking about how he is the manager at a car dealership and they just had their biggest month ever in 4 years and they sold $600,000 worth of cars. He only bought in for $200 though, so I make him a recreational player. It folds to me and I look down at 66 in the BB and I call.
Pot: $62
Flop: Q 9 6
Hero: bets $25
UTG+1: raises $50
LP: reraises $100
Hero: ???
I wasn't too worried about UTG+1. He would do this with KQ, AQ, KK, AA, or even AJ. But he could also have a flush. The guy in LP though, I didn't know what to make of him. He very quickly made it $100 to go, and I stopped for a good minute to think about what I should do. If I call here, I have the risk of UTG+1 raising again and then I'm sure he has the flush or QQQ. If I reraise here and shove then I am only getting called by flushes or hands that beat me I think.
If nothing else, this hand definately taught me the power of position. Thank you for the replies!

This might be a fold pre-flop. These ranges are awfully wide for you to expect to stack anyone consistently if you flop a set, and you can't really play your hand well if you don't flop a set.
I like the flop bet, even though it got you into trouble this time. In general this is a board where you really hate to see it check through and a lot of hands that may not bet will call a bet.
The pot is so big that I think I'd just shove. Running into a flush from LP isn't so bad for you, you have plenty of equity and will get decent odds. The real disaster would be running into a bigger set, but I want to discount those a bit from LP's range as he might prefer to shove them, and it sounds like the other guy's range is wide enough that he won't be sitting on them that often (he also might want to raise bigger with those).
I never thought of folding preflop. I just assumed this was an insta-call. But that makes sense because his range is so wide. If he was an older guy and I knew he had QQ, KK, or AA in that spot then calling here would be good because if I flop a set without a Q, K or A on the board I can safely stack him.
I talked to Joe on the phone the other day about this hand and his first instinct was to fold. But I've talked to other guys too though and they said the same thing you did Andrew and just shove. Interesting hand, Thanks for replying.
As a side note, I had a great session yesterday. I played for 6 hours and walked away $960 up. This was my biggest live cash session I've ever had. It felt really good, and I feel like you guys are a big reason why I am getting better. This site, The Thinking Poker Podcast, videos, the whole community. Thank you very much.
