Don't take this the wrong way, but I am pretty sure your screen name has nothing to do with anything. It is just a pyshcological thing. Let it go. As far as what you are looking at, I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep over not getting Aces every 50 hands, statistically you are only getting them 1 out of every 220 (and that is the long run average). Settle down a little. You seem to be getting hyper about not getting hands and that is most likely only agravatting the problem. If it makes you feel better, we all get the same trash and rags, it happens to everyone, and usually at the time you want it least. Poker is about so much more than just the two cards you are looking at, it is about the table dynamics, players and their styles. Stars is a tough place to play. Everyone knows it is the biggest, everyone plays there, sharks and fish alike. It is going to take a lot of time to get comfortable there, but don't worry, it will happen.

Rambling aside, relax. Everyone can with when they get AA all the time, but your skills will show up with how you handle everything else. Take some time off, watch the vids and see how others are reacting to similair situations. Post some in the strategy forums as well if you think you are missing opportunities or making mistakes. Most of all, take a deep breath and perservere, you'll be ok!

Poker is a lifetime game.  A 2 month bad stretch of variance is a merely a blip on the radar.  It's entirely possible and in fact likely to happen to you at some point in your poker career…..For me, the downswings are actually a blessing in disguise because I work a lot harder on my game during them since I start to question my skill.

sharing it with someone is a good start.  Obviously you dont want to clobber anyone over the head with bad beat stories, but get it out of your system and then take some steps to get out of it.  take a break, do some studying and plug some leaks.

Just keep grinding and it will end (although maybe not as soon as you would like).

Let go of the things you can't controll, such as the cards your opponents get compared to yours. Let go of irrational thoughts such as “site is rigged” or that there are such things as “sucker accounts”. IMO tilt can come in so many forms other than anger. It can be dispair, apathy, fear, superstitions….the point is if you are experiencing excessive emotional reactions when playing, it is hurting your game.<period>

Take a break, no seriously, take a break not 10 minutes, but as long as it takes to renew a positive mental focus! Turn off the computer walk away and do something non-poker related. You will make it through if you be persistent and strive to improve your game. A great book (series) for the mental aspects of poker is “Your Worst Poker Enemy” by Alan N. Schoonmaker…google it. Good luck.

FWIW I'm running ubber awful as well as well as playing bad in certain situations but I will pull through it.  Everyone goes through downswings which is why good bankroll mgmt. is important.  Sometimes the worse I play or go without a good cash the more volume I will try to pump in to try and counteract the variance.  Sometimes its hard to see the leaks in your game when all u remember is the bad beats or how card dead you are in mtts.  Take a break, drop down in your ABI, review your own HH's or watch some of the training videos to help see what you can fix other than remembering how you can't win a race with AK or seeing a two outer hit the river.  That and some crown royal helps as well.

best thing to note is you are not alone – after posting an ROI of 100% for 200 tourneys i have now pretty much been breakeven for 100 tourneys.

i still feel i am playing well, just getting sucked out on at the wrong times.

dont worry, it will turn around.

Sorry to hear that the tilt continues. Sounds like a break is in perfect order. I would also suggest spending some time checking out the vids. The live sweats from Wein, BigDog and Panda have lots of time and situations where they are essentially card dead (in the traditional sense), but still present a lot of good ideas about keeping your momentum up. While on break also take some time to look into post flop play as this can be a great skill to offset not having the cards by out playing. And as always the offer is there if you want to PM we can exchange some HH's if you want some feedback on some recent tourneys or I can send you some of mine if you want to see how I deal with it, also feel free to hop into chat, i am there most nights of the week. Always here and glad to help!

I have done nothing but watching videos for several weeks in a row (and playing of course). It’s because I took a voluntary break from my everyday job because I could afford it and I wanted to devote some time to poker to see if it makes sense for me to take it more seriously. I watched everything here more than once, in particular the leakfinder-type videos, and the bigdog and wein content sometimes 4 or even 5 times. I love this site! You guys really produce the best possible videos. My problem may be precisely that I haven’t done anything but poker-related for so long time now, and I truly enjoyed it …until the downswing. Taking a break may be good to let things settle down when there is a “buffer overflow” which may very well be the case. I play poker in my dreams (seriously), since I have no “poker friends” to talk poker so my brain processes the information the way it can, regularly in my dreams. Sick? :)) I wanted to go back to work next year only and play poker until then. My job is flexible time-wise so I could play two entire days a week and go to office the rest of the time.

PS: And now I am having a headache because of that bottle of wine. :))

Welcome to a great outlet for poker friends. Look us up in chat, like i said we are there every night. I had a very similiar problem with not being able to talk to others and get my thoughts out, but this is a great place for it and a fantastic group to talk strategy with and evaluate things. Looking forward to seeing you there!
