So I had this week off work and planned to put in some serious volume on Stars, iPoker and SkyBet (fishy UK site). I mostly played <$10 buy ins and lots of the $4.50 180 mans on stars (My ROI in these >100% before this week).
Played about 30 tourneys Mon/Tue/Wed and bricked completely. Min cashed a few buy nothing more. There we're so many suck out hands when i got all-in pre 80% good and so many rivers hitting for villain. BUT I worry that I say 'meh thats variance for you' too often when it may have been a hand I could have played differently/got away from/pot controlled.
So today, I awoke and decided to not feel down and go through some HH. I spend most of the day reviewing some of the tourneys I'd played over the last few days and, whilst as always I saw some areas for improvement, I didn't spot anything that made me think the run was just play related. Played a few tourneys tonight and bricked again so stopped. I've lost 65% of my roll in 3 days.
My plan is to take tomorrow and the weekend off, forget about poker for a few days, and come back to it next week. I'm only a recreational player but my plan was to build my roll for a Vegas trip next year and before I go back to the 35% I have left I want to get advice.
I'm sure this happens to everyone at some point but any advice from the TPE Nation on other things I could do as I haven't identified a specific element of my game that needs focus.
Off to watch a few vids now…

can i ask what sort of bankroll strategy you employ? because it sounds like you might have been playing underrolled if you have lost 65% of it in a week.
best thing to do is to drop stakes until you get your confidence back. maybe start grinding the $1 180s or something for a while until you get a few wins under your belt.
in my last downswing i dropped from playing average $20 to playing $2 180s just so i could get confidence back, even though i was still rolled for my same stakes.

Hey Benny,
I was rolled for 100 buy-ins which has been my standard for a good while. When I get to 200 buy-ins I withdraw some, which I actually did 2 weeks ago after FT'ing a few nice tourneys and shipping like $900.
The issue this week was that I played probably about 100 tourneys! Usually I play 2/3 times per week and not usually for long sessions but with having a week off work I've basically played a month or maore in a few days.
So, Im not sure I was underrolled when i started, but yeah, I am now for the stakes I am playing.
I think it's a good shout as the last thing I want is to to be re-loading with my own $$ (the wife has already spent the withdrawal ). Will bust down to some micro's next week and see how it goes. Get my mojo back
Cheers for the tip mate.

As promised took a week off and played just a few days last week and this week.
Took a £2.40 Satty into a £11 Tue Turbo MTT on Sky Poker.
Took 3rd from a 300-ish field for £365 and I am back
Loxxii – your blog helped me think more about how to adapt in this downswing….
Tighened up a little, played a bit more ABC, avioded marginal plays as I always had an edge & won the flips.
At the final table there was a mega stack who was totally bossing the table. After reading the recent ICM article I decided to 'play for 2nd' as going after the monster stack would be ICM suicide. The players dropped one by one and I ended up getting it in A10 to AJ 3 handed BU to SB when down to less than 10 BBs so I think pretty standard.

After weeks of playing card dead and contiuing today the same way.
I just need to vent off my steam, so I do not go on tilt.
Again playing card dead in 3 straight tournaments today on line at 3 different sites, I finally started getting a few hands. I built myself up to about 20 big blinds from less than 10BB in all 3 tourneys then this happens:
Tourney 1 A caller from MP, I have Ace Ten on button. I raise 2.5x MP Caller completes. Flop Ace eight four rainbow.
MP Villain Raises all in . I'm committed I go all in also. Villain has KJ Turn K River K
Tourney 2 folded to me to CO. I have AK I have 21 BB. I raise 2.5BB. Called by Big Blind
Flop ace, Jack, four rainbow. I CB 3/4 pot. Villain all in. I call all in. Villain has Jack Ten Turn six River Jack
Tourney 3 UTG calls, the rest fold to me. I raise 2.x BB with KJ. Flop King Jack two rainbow. UTG goes all in
I go all in/ Villain shows KQ. Turn four River Queen
I am begining to believe I'm either the most unluckiest poker player on earth on the sites are rigged.
UGH I hope this variance changes soon
