Finally got fed up with being a loosing player, so I took 2 months off last november-January. Although I didn’t play one hand in that time I did study tons, everyday. 6 books and one TPE subscription later n it took a few tourneys to get a cash but once I did it all started to click. Cashed 4 tourneys this summer and FTed 3 of them. The one none ft was a wsop 1500$ n got 43 of 2534 🙂 I am in the black around 25k and now find my real job very hard to get motivated to do as I make round 110 a day. I really want to pull the trigger n go “pro” but can’t make up my mind. How have others made the transition and what should I expect if I do quit my real job? Thanks for ur thoughts

Wouldn't recommend it unless you are very confident with your game and can handle the variance. This depends on where you live as well because if you are going to make it as a live pro you MUST play a decent amount of cash to balance out the variance of live mtt's. If you put in 30-40 hours of cash a week and are confident with your cash game then I say go for it. If not, don't. It's going to be much tougher than you expect it to be.

Obviously my game is at an all time high as far as confidence goes. I do play a lot of live cash, 2-3 times a week if I can make it off work(3-5 NL). I don’t feel that 30-40 hrs a week is a must, that’s tons. Don’t u think if u play less u will be well rested, more in tune n not playing zombie poker? 31 years old, no wife/kids, thinking like now or never, always been a goal mine, more like a dream really. Plus I think having achieved my goal, if I do pull the trigger, would add +EV to the whole thing. Gotta be in it to win it right? At a total cross roads right now in life, not sure which road to take
i would be very cautious about going all out pro poker player w/ no job. live MTTs are whacky with variance. even though you did well this year at wsop (congrats btw) you could go 2 full wsops without cashing especially if u play $1500s w/ fields of 3k+. if youre american its even harder as online poker is currently declining. i played thru college and currently play as a pro now but even now im still keeping my eye open for opportunities elsewhere.
if the american online legislation/market enfolds as i feel it will, now is PRIME TIME to study, study, study and work on your fundamental game. id say keep your job, continue to play and live comfortably, and then re-evaluate as the online market opens up again in USA.
hope this helps

I cant echo enough what the other guys are saying, the varience can be really brutal, really really brutal, especailly after you have had a hot streak and think you have become a poker genius. The poker gods then flick the switch and it can be v hard to take. But, that said if you have a dream i say go for it, but go for it with your eyes open to the potential lows as well as highs. Dont over extend your bankroll, because you will have to live off it as well as play off it, taking shots for the big time could spell disaster – trust me on this one.
