Multitabling Learning Curve

I am just getting into multitabling and I have made all sorts of bonehead plays because I was distracted by the other  tables. Is that a normal part of the learning curve? If so how long before one becomes efficient at it?

Thanks

I usually play 3 or 4 tables at a time…unlike the guys who play 10+.   I think the tough part is when I playing heads up on one the rest all kind of go to auto pilot which cant be but so good.

But for the most part if you dont try to get super tricky  rarely are there times when I find myself stuck having two or more tough decisions to make at the same time.

I tend to keep it small so I can still maintain some level of attention on what is going on. I don't play with a HUD (I find it too cluttered and distracting) so my game relies on me watching what is going on so I can make effective decisions. When I played SnG's I would play 10-12 and you just go on autopilot. Biggest key is to take the increase in tables slow and get yourself accustomed to it so that you don't overwhelm yourself

4-6 tables is good, i can still pay attention.  and i have 2 21″ monitors.  sometimes i play up to 10 but yah it's autopilot.

start with 4 tables and tile them, it will help your game more than trying to 20 table and playing like a mindless robot.

i agree with the advice to start small (even just 2 tables) then slowly add more.  Also, I dont know if this should matter, but it helps me mentally if i put my bigger buy in tournes on one screen and the smaller stuff on another.  That way, I know which screen i should be paying “the most” attention to.  Also as stuff gets deeper ill group that together.  So say i have 2-3 tables that are 18-27 left and a few others that are still 50+ people left, ill group the first ones together on one monitor to make sure Im paying attention and also abusing the pseudo-bubbles a little more effectively.

+1 to KB's post I do mine almost identical to how he does… find it allows me to be more efficient on the tables I “REALLY” need to pay attention to since Im deep or on the bubble
