Last 4 nights in Midnight madness 16, 18, 140, 12…out of 2700+ fields.

I don't know how you all play on these sites with fields this enormous and not go hang yourself!  They are completely full of people that don't have a clue what they are doing and it's always pleasent to play for 5 1/2 hours to have someone push and pray shove with QJ overs for their whole tournament life to catch runner runner to crack your aces.  There is ZERO skill level (outside shove/fold for those who actually know it) deep and I don't understand the logic of spending all that time playing to sit at one of two remaining tables and not a person on the table has over 20 BB's….this isn't poker…this is bingo!

God I am going to have to make such a mental adjustment to get ready for all this 🙁

Absolutely mind blowing!!!!yell

OK…I bitched…going to bed….Oh yea…nice meeting you all…

Whoa, what are you bitching about lol? 3 out of 4 very deep runs in a huge field is impressive, donkament or not!! How late are you playing to make it that deep and what were the payouts?

Considering giving this Mid Madness a shot some night as it's not too late for me living on the West Coast.

Yea…I was really tired and grouchy last night 🙂  I am on west coast also, and you get to FT about 3 am give or take.  Payouts IMO, aren't that good at all for running that deep.  Last night was 12th and I think it paid like $250…it't hard to swallow when you are starring at $5k+ for first.

The main reason for my bitch was only because I was a UB grinder and recently made the switch.  I am just use to playing “real” deep stack poker, not what FT considers deep stack.  It's nice making final tables and having 50+ BB's stacks to work with.  Every single thing I have played on FT has been 20bb stacks.  Doesn't leave any room for error, and one lost hand and it's over your out.  It's extremely tilting to play with people that don't know what they are doing and continually sucking out on me deep. There isn't any real room for stealing blinds and anti's either cause the resteal rates are through the roof and are you really going to call with a suited ace rag that you are stealing in LP with when they are constantly reshoving on you?  It's next to impossible to have accuaracy in stealing blinds and now I have found I have had to totally NIT up my LP game in order to not lose 25% of my stack to resteals.

I just really enjoy deep stack poker…I find it hysterical when FT calls 3000 starting stacks “Deep Stack” poker.  I think that is one of the funniest things in poker!

in 2008 I made a “Deep Run Bitch” thread on another forum I was part of.  It quickly became very popular.  Anytime someone got a 12th or something similarin a huge field they posted it.

I stopped posting in it myself, though.  It was only fueling some internal “I deserve better” attitude.  Then I realized that i kept making these deep runs because I was getting GOOD.  I was outlasting the fields.  But the variance of these deep runs is incredible.  Only 1 person is going to win this thing, when we are 20 deep.  The odds of top 3 are still against us.

I can understand the motivation to post this here.  It's very frustrating to have a shot at a nice score a bunch of times in a short period and come up short each time.  Your results are definitely frustration-inducing.  But keep with it.  You're on the right track.  There are more tourneys to be played and eventually if you keep getting there the magical rungood endgame will hit you.

I posted it on another thread but I had 20+ final 18 finishes with out an FT (actually I think i got one, a 7th place).  Then I win three in a row.  Straight up wins.  Just keep plugging away.  Good luck!

Hey Ron….thanks for taking the time out to respond.  And yes, this was a bitch thread…like I mentioned, I was very tired after some really long days of grinding.  Getting deep and cashing isn't a problem for me…although I have never had a score much bigger than $6k, I have had over $200k in cashes.

The problem for me is really getting my head around these large fields on FT and playing with such short stacks deep.  Right now it seems everyone is up in arms on other forums about the same exact issue with the Sunday Million, but I don't think it's fair that everyone is paying attention to “just” this event and not other events…like it's the only one that matters.  I will get accumulated as time goes on, but definitely extremely tilting when you are use to real deep stack poker deep is all.

Funny thing is that I haven't even tried Stars yet so I assume it's the same there.  Either way I have some work to do in front of me 🙂

Thanks for the replies!

Yeah i think the point here is that you better get used to the stack sizes because they are fairly common.  There's no way that the field sizes that PS or FTP get will get done in a reasonable amount of time if they played deeper.

Funny you mention that because I have been thinking about “just” that point.  Agreed on two things….one, better get use to it because it isn't going to change.  Two, yes they won't get done in a reasonable time either.

However…just entertain me for a moment…let's say they were changed.  Now all of the sudden the tournaments were taking twice as long to finish.  People decide they aren't going to play certain tournaments because they take forever…now the fields get smaller and you have real deep stack poker that doesn't take as long.  But now that I am hearing myself speak out loud…why would FT do this and lose all that rake?!?!  Yea….ok…better just get use to it huh??

OK so they won't change the exhisting stuff, but I can't see any reason why they can't add some more 5k or 10k deep stack tourenys to their schedule for people who would like to play these.  Maybe it is something they tried in the past and didn't work for all I know.

So yes I will get adjusted to it mentally eventually, and I already feel better about it just talking about it with someone….

Like I said in another thread…I have been alone on an Island for a long time 😉  That's why I am here…to work this stuff out with someone 😉

FT already have quite a few super stack tourneys which take forever. maybe you should give those a crack, they might suit your game a bit more

Yea the super stacks on FT (5000k starting chips) have much more play, I FT'd the $10 and chopped when 3 of us left – took about 10 1/2 hours and there was plenty of play left once got to FT

Making it out of the 1st hour in The Midnight Sadness is a sick run!  But doing it 4 times in a row, simply amazing!!

Ron…I wanted to come back to this and point out how absolutely valuable your response to this was to me mentally!  Sometimes we don't know where we are going to get our lessons from, and although this was a bitch thread, your response completely turned me around.  My last 6 outings in MM I have 12, 14, 16, 18, X, 40 (not in that exact order and not exact numbers for sure but just about right on) and if I hadn't posted my bitch, and not have received your reply, it would of probably messed me up for a while.  Because of you sharing your own experience with it, it totally set me up mentally to be OK with not making the FT getting that close.  Every time it has happened, I just kept thinking about your post and really was OK with it 🙂

Thank you so much for helping me with this!
