Demoralized as I lose tourney after tourney after tourney  since mid-August….  Besides the usual bad beats and coolers, I keep making the wrong play at the wrong time, and when I do have  a hand I get no action, though plenty of action when I have second best by the river.

I keep getting extended bad runs but have never had a heater beyond a couple of days. I lust after having a 6 week long heater to match the 6 week long downturn but I know I never will as I used up all my luck surviving the Lebanese Civil War as a volunteer EMT.

hey man.  hang in there.  swings can last SOOO long, but they do end with hard work and determination.

If you want to chat one on one, drop me a PM and we can arrange a method to chat on AIM or whatever.  Talking strategy with poker friends is super important, but maybe more important is having poker friends to talk you through these swings!

MTT's are the sickest game in poker as far as variance is concerned so it's not uncommon to have huge down swings. I have had a downswing of over 100 buy-ins in the past…so I know it happens.

Take a look at the best players' in the money stats (ITM%) on OPR (official poker rankings) and you will see that they are between ~12-~18 %. Which means at 12% they cash 12 times out of 100 tournaments that means they lose 88 times. I know this seems pretty simple and obvious but really think about that…successful players cash less than 20 times out of one hunded tournaments.

You can only concern yourself with the things you can control. Such as improving your game (though TPE) and your mindset, which can be done. Another good option as KB said is to get poker friends or possibly a coach. Have someone you respect review a HH of yours which can really open your eyes as far as potential errors or leaks and also give you confidence in the parts of your game that you play well. The study group would be great for this.

+1 to what swet1 said. Also, surviving civil war > surviving a mtt AINEC

You'll get some rungood karma soon.

The reason why the very good players surpass the average players is that, even though both will cash roughly 20%, the good players have many more top 3's because they know how to close the deal when given the opportunity.

KB makes a good point. Having poker friends who understand and that can talk you through these swings are important. Might I suggest some SnGs to get the ole confidence back up as well? Might be beneficial.

Thanks for the support. As for SNG's I have actually been running worse on those…

How my downswing as been manifesting itself a lot is bubble coolers including FT bubble coolers. Last night in AP 4K 6 man Guarantee. I was chip lead with 8 left. Short pushes flattted by #2 stack I iso shove with AK and #2 stack shows AA. I die 2 hands later as 7th when the now #1 stack hits is ace on the river with AK against my KK.

It seems like I always get the wrong hands at the wrong time. My main struggle is to not revert to weak tight which is my original prestudy style.
