DannyN13: Positive Coaching Feedback

I just wanted to take a few minutes to give some positive feedback to the TPE community, specifically about Mr. Noseworty (I still lol at the last name because it sounds like it should have been the last name of a character in “Blow” like Derek Noseworthy instead of Derek Foreal or whatever it was)… anyway…incase any of you are considering coaching for any reason, I just wanted to let you guys know that it will absolutely be worth your time and money with Danny.
I had a session with a pretty well known (pre BF) mtt reg, a few months ago (and I will give him that I didn’t go to him to help with any specific area of my game; I was just downswinging hardcore and just wanted a quick inexpensive session to see if this reg could identify and plug any leaks for me..).. and I have to say that I didn’t feel like I got a ton out of it.. I kinda don’t like the “let’s just review a HH” method of coaching because you don’t always remember your reads or exact reasoning for every spot. Plus you usually don’t go over every hand, so you don’t have much of a feel for table reads and game flow during that kind of coaching session…
So I was sort of hesitant after that session to seek more coaching, but I had been kinda spewing money playing hyper satties, trying to br supplement, and was not sure if I was losing $ due to varience or a bad push/fold game.. so Danny was actually in one of these satties and I had not been on TPE in a while to know if he did coaching or not… I also knew he had a great turbo game, just from playing with him, and from previous vids here. So I asked him about coaching and we talked a little bit.
I did specifically tell him that I wanted to work, mostly, on my short ish turbo push/fold/calling game, so we had a bit of a plan before the lesson..but I liked everything he said about his coaching including: that two of his recent students have been crushing hard lately since the coaching (a +, obv, tho I know the one guy, HoH, he mentioned is a beast)… I liked that in addition to reviewing a small HH review of a recent turbo mtt I ft’d (at my request to review) coaching would also include a lot of live sweating, which, imo, is the best way to improve one’s game. I also liked that when I asked him to compromise on pricing a bit, because of my recent not so super experience with the other coach, he wouldn’t budge, which def says to me that he knows his coaching is worth what he’s charging (and it was).
As for the actual lesson.. we started off with a pretty in-depth review of the FT HH that I wanted to look at. Prob took a little longer on that than I expected to, but that was no problem because everything we discussed during the HH review was worth talking about. He showed me some spots that he thought I should be open shoving or 3b shoving (and I liked his reasoning and analysis)… some spots where he liked what I did, and a semi-lengthy discussion about the 1 hand that was kinda bothering me (+ I was being results oriented about it cuz I saw on a replay that I folded the best hand…).. which I was happy to take the time to go over, and now def feel a little better about how the hand played out. So this is where with other coaches, a student might start to think “oh shit.. we just spent almost half of our two our session going over this HH, and coach here just got out of having to sweat me for very long!”.. and I must say that I wasn’t too worried about this, 1.because Danny had said at the start of the lesson that he wouldn’t be strict about the time the lesson ended. and 2. because my read on him was that he was a good enough genuine kinda dood that actually meant ^^that when he said it..
So after the HH review we started sweating the last mtt I had been playing during the session, and I got coolered hard in that, but as we had planned, I jumped right into some of the 180mans (that I rarely frequented previous to our session) – 1.because there would be tons of short stack spots in those to go over, which could be applied to my mtt game, and 2. because I wanted to start adding 180mans for a BR supplement(and wanted to have a better idea of how to play them w/ the shorter stacks and whatnot, instead of just trying to figure out for myself and hoping I was doing it good enough), and also so I’d be able to play some shorter sessions sometimes. The live sweating was very helpful, as I had expected. Danny gave his opinions and advice in all spots that weren’t completely obvious, and the reasons behind everything, in a manner that was easy to follow, and easy to remember. During the live sweating, I did manage to FT one of the four or five 180s that I had loaded up during the session (and I def didn’t run really super, so I was happy with this percentage for my first mini 180man session, and Danny’s coaching/sweating def helped me reach this FT!)
(resuming writing after a long interruption)… so to find out exactly what strategy was covered in the lesson, you guys will have to hire the bossman for yourselves, but I am quite certain that his coaching/tune up definitely improved my play where I wanted it to be improved, and I def have some noteworthy results to follow this lesson w/ Mr. Noseworthy! 😀 .. the very next day I shipped a hyperT 6max for a small four figure score… and since the lesson ~10days or so ago, I now feel very good about my turbo/short game and I feel very good about adding 180mans when I can, either for playing shorter sessions or to get more out of my hourly! Most recently, I FT’d the sunday cubed and got coolered in 3rd place, and shipped a $35 180man and a $3r 180 on the same day! 😀
Dan’s the man! ’nuff said!
