Hi everyone,

I was wondering if people can recommend good poker software trainers. I'm a beginning player. I'd like to use something to improve my game for online and live tournaments. I'd like something that could really help me become a better player.

I've heard Turbo Texas Hold'Em by Wilson software is good. Opinions?

Thanks!

Hi fader and welcome!

I havent used any poker software trainers before so can't really help you with that.  I'd recommend to start watching the smaller stakes videos here and then just start playing and that is the best training you can get.

Thanks Cougar,

For playing real money games, what types of games would you recommend to start at? I'm not a complete noob as I've studied some on my own and play live some at friendly tournaments and in bars. Not great yet though and definitely want to take it easy starting out playing with real money online.

at the begin i would recommend playing some freerolls. i would say this is a good and cheap way to start in the mttworld 😉

i would recommend 9 man sit and gos if you havent played much for real money before.

you could find them basically on any site if you want to play them, a tight style is good enough to be successful, and you can play basically any stakes you want.

from there you can move into multi table SNGs, the 45 mans and 180 mans etc.

my advice would be to just try some different stuff at low stakes and see what you like. since you have joined up to this site i am guessing you like tourneys so SNGs are probably a good way to go but up to you.

welcome and good luck!

Poker Stove (determining equity vs. various hand ranges), Unviseral Replayer (to review games you played), SitNGo Wiz (helps with finding push/fold leaks)… these were a few that I used when I started, and I still use them when reviewing hands

freerolls are not a bad option, but if you can I would suggest putting even a small amount of money online and playing the samllest tourneys.

Even if you only play $1 tourneys and nothing bigger, you are going to get a little more of a true feel for the game playing those than freerolls.

Best thing is to play stakes that will not cripple your bankroll and review HH, post hands in forum and ask questions. Everyone here at TPE are very nice and even if you make a wrong move the worst you will here is ” I didn't like that.” Poker software is good for poker mathematics and working on ranges, but nothing beats real play to mix in the meta game. Best poker training in my opnion, low stakes, HH reviews and feedback from others on hands. You can also try Zynga, it is full of donks but if you can beat Zynga you will do well in micros.
