You responded to a member about proper study habits, how do I get the most of my experience without having access to online poker? All my old poker buddies stopped playing n studying with me as we’ll n I’m flying solo when not on tpe. I don’t think I’m gonna stop playing anytime soon so I want to make the best of what poker is available to me, I have poker journals dating back to 2003 but I feel like I need more direction.
I love poker lit n have my library that I refer to but I don’t have the volume of hands. For playing live poker recreationally or as I like to say serious hobbyist, I’ve only put in 202 hrs in 2 years. N in those two years my bankroll has gone up n down but I’m still in the positive for now.
Are u able to play on merge from the states?
Yes I am but actually I’ve moved to Canada recently and play on FTP and stars much more frequently. Merge works in the states and its a decent network but tbh with the direction it’s heading in I wouldn’t feel right recommending you put a legitimate chunk of money on there.
As for studying I would try to play as much as you can live and online. If you don’t want to risk merge, I’d recommend true / Americas card room network. Pretty legit and decent tournaments most days.
Poker is a game you can’t really study without actively applying the strategies in person. No matter how well you study it will be hard to be successful without hand experience.
honestly throughout my career ive flexed back and forth from MTTs to (live) cash. in my lifetime ive certainly made more playing MTTs but i got my start playing live cash and still enjoy aspects of that as well.
as for qualifications, i dont know if you mean what qualifications do i have to be a pro at TPE, or what makes me “good” at MTTs?
ahhh, my bad.
I went to Michigan State University and got a Bachelor's in Economics and minor in Philosophy and Law. I chose MSU my freshman year bc I was going into something else and wanted as much flexibility as possible in case I changed my mind (which I often do). I took the LSAT (law school entrance exam) in October and will again in December. I'm not sure when but at some point I plan to go back to school to get a JD/MBA (law degree and business degree).
I think my next series is going to be a series on playing readless (without HUDs, or in the case of Bovada, without screen names). I know a lot of players on TPE dont play with HUDs so i'll try to make a helpful series on some pointers on picking up reads on other players w/o stats. It would also be helpful if you use HUDs but are playing unfamiliar opponents without a decent hand sample. The only thing I still have to work out is I don't really like doing live sweats but I dont know how to work around that in a HH review style video. So I guess I'll just have to man up and make a live sweat!
hope this answered your question
