Coug…Good job with this video. I got some adjustments to make for my game for LOCK regarding cbet and the shortstack game. The hand in this particular video where you were talking about TT card that “daddy” had that played it a little nitty was valuable. The idea is to play in a +EV spot regardless of the result or suckout because statistically, it is a profitable ship instead of a fold.

Great job! looking forward to Part 3.

Thanks for the good input Coug. I normally play much more wide open, and find a lot more reshove spots. I did make it a point to focus on “tournament life” in this tournament going in. Nitty? Sure maybe a bit. But as you will see, in the end I’m a bad beat away from final tabling and possibly winning this tourney… So I did stick with the plan. I don’t disagree with most of your analyses.
In mp1 i believe you mentioned i should have opened jq off. I had 4 shove stacks behind in the 15bb range. I wasnt suited and the bb had just under 15. Didnt want to be in that spot to have to call off there with only 24bbs. As far as the 1010 hand, yes normally for me this is an easy reshove. And yes this is probably a +ev spots. But its also a coin flip, and by shoving here I only have one way to win the pot. I really focused on getting in first, to have my “allin” vigor. MSPoker was a 16/16, and with 5 players behind, just felt this was a very high variance play obviously. If im in blinds and this is coming from a button shove or co shove I’m snapping it. The Ak vs 88 co vs button hand. The flat from “tastingmenu” was very scary. Myself and a lot of other good players, flat in this spot hoping to induce a squeeze from the blinds. This was definitely a thought, as most of his A10-AK stuff he is jamming. When the flop hits, if he is playing hands like qq-aa, i have a ton of outs, and dont want to get blown off..so my plan is to check call here and pot control. Also if I cbet, im knocking under pairs out. As played, if i cbet here, i lose his flop bet, of 3470..So i stick with my plan of trying to eliminate as much variance as I can. By checking here I’m 100% certain he wouldnt overbet the pot by 4x if i just check..by betting I could easily get shoved on. I cant imagine this guy flatting here with the stacks behind, with much less then a solid premium. Ive stacked many of “blinds squeezes” this way by flatting in his spot. So i do proceed with caution..As far as the chk chk..Once the ace hits the turn I’m wanting to get to showdown cheaply. The river I don’t believe I’m getting called with worse, and I’m checking with intent to call a small bet if he tries to bluff riv. I’m in 100% agreement with you with the A7s hand. I missed his jam of 150 chips lol, essentially it was an unopened pot, I’d shove this hand. just missed his chip stack, or lack of lol.. The 99’s in the sb with 32 bigs left. Agreed most times this is a shove, just seems like too much to put in for me at this point, and not enough to 3bet fold, so I chose flatting 2bbs. Probably better then just folding. So I agree with you this could easily just as well be a reshove. With all this beings said. I had been on a 45day down swing losing a lot of flips, miles and miles ahead..REPEATEDLY…I shipped 5 guarantees in Oct, and then went on a $1800 downswing losing almost every flip in reshove scenarios in November. It was so bad I thought about not playing merge anymore. Since the down swing I have started eliminating higher variance plays, like reshipping 30bbs, and taken that number way down to the 10-15 range. My results have been pretty solid since. Im not losing patience in this range, and forcing reshoves marginally. I am back to crushing the tables, by eliminating a lot of high variance plays, while being aggressive in position in the mid to late stages. By stealing blinds, and cbetting most “uninprovable flop spots. (pure wiffs, n scary board stuff). While pot controlling and checking top pair spots, smashed pots,etc.. Allowing my out of position villain to then bluff turn to pick up and extra few bets, or even stack me off. Thanks for the knowledge and I look forward to part3. Gene (1Uwant2bdaddy1)

Really enjoyed these vids. Cant really add anything more to the hand review as cougars more or less sums it up perfectly.

A question for Cougars — in the Q6s hand on 17 mins — dont you think he should be double barrelling that 7 turn card? He has a flush draw and a gutshot and Tito could quite easily be floating the flop? By checking the turn u gifting the pot to Tito if you blank the river.

  4. Cougars4444

The only problem with 2 barreling the turn is what is our plan if we get shoved on? We still have position so depending on river whether we hit or not we can shove as a bluff and really put him in a rough spot or shove for value if we hit and he decides to lead river. A lot is read dependent and I don’t want to give him the chance to check/shove us off our big draw.

  5. SJOHN11

OK thx,i was surprised he checked the river, the daimond seems the perfect card for him to bluff after you have checked the turn back — for him to check leads me to think he must have had some showdown value — what u putting him on there? Possibly A4?

  6. Cougars4444

Ehhh, I’d say 22, 55, 66 def could be A4 or A3. He was taking a lot of flops so def had a wide flatting range esp since people still will defend their bb to a minraise super super wide sometimes. I agree that he prob had some showdown value but when we bet so big he gave us credit for having a hand here as there is not a lot he can beat and was just trying to get to a cheap showdown.

  7. 0lespaul3

Agreed. U dont bet here cuz the last thing you want is to get blown off your hand. The big bet was designed to try to look bluffie by the way.. a small half pot or less looks very valuish…

  8. SJOHN11

I dont mind the double barrel in that spot — i feel he folds a good enough percentage of the time to make it the right play. But i understand what you are both saying — what were your plans if you brick the river?

Th for the feedback btw cougars.

  9. 0lespaul3

if i brick river im still making a half pot bet no matter what it is…its the only way i cn win the pot at that point..i am the preflop raiser…the call looks weird, but once he cheks turn to me, i know he more then liikely very weak

Would you fold this same exact spot next time?

What about the many hands they can shove with 10bb that you dominate? (I think with maybe 5’s down I can sometimes fold this spot, thinking along the lines of what you said above.)

I think you my have passed up a few spots that many others wouldn’t (like cougar said with certain hands) so do you think it’s possible you are giving other players too much credit?

Very good video and I liked your in depth response too.

    Thanks for responses.

Watching this through right now but TT is a huge must get it in here AINEC. He’s shoving 10bb’s, and you are crushing his range.

There’s a lot to be said for “tournament life,” but maybe if you take this spot here, you eventually end up with enough chips that you can take a bad beat at the final two tables.

Enjoying the vid so far, and congrats on the score.

    Hi Cougar,

Just a question regarding the KQo hand (26mins50). If we 3bet in this spot, what’s our plan vs. a 4bet?

    Thanks,

  13. 0lespaul3

hey man sorry i took so long. this whole tourney, my play was to always get in first or be able to shove over with premiums only when necessary. I had came off a brutal 3 week downswing of losing every flip miles ahead with tourney life on the line. i had like 12 bbs at this point, with about 50 spots out of the money. this was a VERY tough fold! In normal low stakes buy ins im snapping this every single time. Not this one. I’d played 4 hours to this point, if i lose this flip i have no shot at winning or cashing. Yes u play to win. But this is a high variance spot. So no, i still believe im folding here. even tho its prolly +ev..for the reasons as follows.1)im not allin first(no allin vigor)2) how tight this girl was.16/16, she could of easily showed jj+ 3) tourney was on the line..if i had her covered say 20-30bbs i would of reshoved. 4)5 players yet to act. So it was just a really sticky spot. If this was me on button her on cutoff. yes cuz i can assume she is far lighter. or im in the small or bb and she shoves from button, easy reshove. but this was a very high variance play, which i was trying to avoid. so i really stuck to the plan..keep in mind i sattied into this tourney for 0$ if u ever seen me play, i can be the most aggressive player at the table..and i can crush the low stakes at a very nice roi.(not to gloat), but my play in this particular tourney was to eliminate as much variance as possible..if u watched it to the end, you will see when i had the QQ n had the 1010s shoved at me and dont lose a 2outer, i move to a top 5 stack. almost guranteed the final 9, and a possible win..as u seen in the video as soon as i had the proper chp counts i began to aggro it up, and chip up.So knowing this, I’m not sure I actually change anything 😀 GL to u buddy!

Wow. I want to go back and apologize to anybody that has ever tried to help me. I know I am stubborn, but this opened my eyes. I now know that variance is not bad when you are short. With big risk comes big reward. The best way to avoid variance when short is to blind off. Avoiding variance is not the goal. Taking calculated risks (aka variance) is the goal.
