In my last blog post I discussed by new cash game goal of trying to put in a solid effort and make some decent money between now and when I leave for the World Series of Poker. I wanted to take a moment to give a quick update on my progress in that regard.
Because of our trip to Atlantic City and a few other conflicts I have not been able to put in my usual volume there, but I have managed to get in three sessions. I have posted a photo of my graph below.
As you can see, my first session under this new philosophy was not a particularly good one. I dropped two buy ins in rather unremarkable fashion. There were no real exciting hands or huge drama, just small pots here and small pots there. The last two sessions have been a bit more positive winning approximately $600 per session and, thankfully, getting myself in to positive territory.
In general I have just been playing snug and trying to pick up small pots without much conflict. I've started playing flopped draws a bit more aggressively, which I think is helping a ton. I used to tend to just call with flush draws and open ended draws, but I'm finding it is better to take down pots early when possible and that I can get more value when I do hit my hands playing these spots more aggressively. Additionally I've gotten a bit more willing to put in selective light 3 bets to take down dead money when I sense weakness.
I have become hyper-aware of position and avoid playing pots out of position whenever possible. This is, if nothing else, making my decision process post-flop much easier.
I will likely be putting in another session on Thursday so hopefully I can keep the trend going! More updates coming soon!
