in the end of the video, when you 3bet AQs , do you think he is capable of 4bet jam AJ ? ill guess most people would not 4bet jam light against a utg+2 3better , (with out some history) so isnt better to 3bet fold? cause at best case you are flipping? and just flat there, sucks?
    thanks for the video bigdog

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. You say that AQs is way ahead of his opening range, but probably not ahead of his 4b range. By 3b AQs here aren’t you turning your hand into a bluff (unless he just flats weaker Aces and other hands) so either 3b/f or what about just flatting and playing post flop since you have the benefit of being in position???

Hey guys. I think 3 bet folding is fine. But I still maintain that the aq is ahead of his opening range. And if he 4 bets we get the info we wanted so we just fold alot of the time depending on dynamics. His stack size our stack size history tourny etc.

but if he never flats (and flatting would be pretty unusual given stack sizes), why does it matter if AQs is ahead of his opening range there? if anything doesnt that make it worse to 3bet a hand with good equity as a bluff there? because if we are 3b/f then we either take that spot with all Ax blockers or its a bad spot to bluff and we should consider folding pre or flatting instead.

lol ok well you may never flat there but alot of people are. If everyone played exactly like i did it would be a easier game. People do fishy stuff all the time. We should never consider folding pre I respectfully disagree I think thats awful to just fold aq there. I dont have a real issue with flatting although I still like 3 betting and evaluating where you are. Its not always the case that when I get 4 bet I am beat and therefore I have turned my hand into a bluff.

i think there is one more point into it, if he 4bet, you can range him by his timing, sizing and the feel of the situation in the moment. thats why theres no rules on how to play certain hand in certain spot. but this is not the easiest spot to play, at least for me.

Bigdog, new member here, not new to tournaments … a question I have for you is about your BB play. You seem to defend a *lot*, and you choose to do so by flatting. I’m curious what your BB/100 is from the BB because I just cant imagine that flatting these hands OOP ends up being worth the call even when there’s 1 or 2 flatters already in.. Obviously we all lose money from the BB but the BB/100 number would just be a comparison point for me.

I could possibly get on board with you flatting hands like 75s if you had an interesting strategy for taking pots away postflop when you miss, but from the few videos I’ve watched (and its only been a few so far admittedly), it seems that you’re mostly just looking to see if you hit. In my experience it just seems too thin and too uncertain to really be flatting as wide as 75s (unless its something you do rarely) because not only do people know you have crappy hands a lot (allows them to barrel you like crazy), but playing out of position is just so damn hard. If there are scenarios you like to play back at people in, I’m curious what they are. Obviously every situation is different but maybe there are some common factors involve you could talk about briefly.

casey around 28 minutes i’m extremely shocked you folded to any bet way before action got to you with J10s in the lock freeze. Care to explain why you didn’t at least wait till someone opened? it limped in front of you with MP and HJ that’s an easy limp, or raise. More so given how it seems you are very happy to flat and limp hands IP (which is fine clearly) im just shocked you did that

    Casey,

Love your videos, all of them. Just 1 comment on this one. Early in the video around 9:00min you said when you opened A8os from MP on a shorty in the BB “hmmm, if he shoves I’ll probably call because I’m feeling it”. This isn’t exactly the analysis that helps students IMHO, I know you are recording live so it’s hard to do in-depth etc. But I’ve heard you say similar when doing a hand history review after the fact. I wish instead of saying “I am/was feeling it”, you would pull up PokerStove and walk us through the math of why you would call, assigning ranges to the BB shorty, etc. Or if you are at the final table, pull up SNG Wizard in your videos to walk us through the math of push/fold decisions. Anyway, I still love your vids, just wish there was a little more math and range analysis in some spots and not so much “I’m feeling it”.

I know it sucks to go that deep and not cash huge, but winning enough for your next ~15 Sunday Million buyins is better than busting first level!
