A few years back I started blogging for Bluff Magazine, in the youth of my poker/post college days. Although you're not all grown up until the day before you die, I feel like I'm not so much of a rookie as I used to be.
I'd like to use this blog to talk about politics. As you know Obama and Romney are in a domestic war for presidency right now…………….PSYCH
Talking about politics is lame and 80% of people who do are unhappy. Ok that is a made up stat, but let's see if we can take it viral folks. The buzz right now in America should be about last night, and every night's football game. Once again a player got hit resulting in a brief moment where everyone watching took a knee and thought he was either dead or paralyzed. Fortunately for Joshua Cribbs he was able to walk off the field without any real assistance.
Last week was no different in the Oakland Raider's game. Darrius Heyward Bey ran a crossing route over the middle of the field, caught the football, and was unconscious before he hit the ground. Women in America don't care because generally they hate football, and the only men who care are the ones who have him on their fantasy team (not me). The defending players have to hit with the same intensity or else they will get injured as a result of playing under 100%. Therefor the liability relies on the league to govern and penalize those massive hits, which they are doing a great job of. However, 15 yard unnecessary roughness penalties don't save lives, that's just how it is.
This all brings me to my conclusion. When I have my 6 foot 6 240 pound son, he will never play football in his life. He will dominate any sport he chooses but football will not be one of those sports. No matter how big you are, if you make it to the NFL, you can die. I grew up playing soccer every day of my life. I think it is a much better sport, just not in the United States, which is fine. Every country needs their identity, ours is fatal hits and 90 yard hail marys. Soccer players just have to deal with that when everyone driving a Ford F-150 calls them a pussy.
Oh yeah, and the under covered last night….YAY!!!
