Thanks Kontisnikos!
SJOHN11 yeah there is a few reasons actually.
I think I may write an article on this instead as I can go into a fair amount of detail. I will try to do this in the near future.
I’m trying to become a 45 man regular (with some 180s thrown in) so found this series very helpful. I have a ‘general’ question about short stacked pushing. I have noticed a few spots where the 45 / 180 regs would say ‘push atc’. I don’t have a specific hand, but I remember a spot where you had a Jx hand on the button (or cut off?) with about 9 BB and you folded without even thinking about it. This is one of those spots where the aforementioned regs would get it in. This was kind of refreshing for me, because without a ‘perfect’ set up, I don’t like to push atc (in my mind pushing 70% ish is a lot better).
So my question (after all that rambling) is, do you pass on some +EV spots to wait for better spots? Or is there some underlying theory applying to large field turbo MTTs that does not apply to 45 and 180s?
Great series, and I hope you have a chance to respond to this post.
Thanks guys appreciate it!
thearthurdog… I know exactly what you mean and yes I agree I am more selective than some regs in certain spots. 180s and turbo mtts I play pretty much the same except in the mtts you are usually deeper so more stealing/restealing and if you go deep it matters what you shove a lot more than in a 180 or 45 man obv with icm etc. The way I look at shoving short it is this; when are the blinds up? Am I over 10 bbs? Do i still have fold equity for the next orbit when I get a marginal spot? Can I go through the blinds one more time? Who am I shoving on that will call correctly (light)? What is the bbs stack (does he have to call/ is it tough for him to call). I believe if you take all these factors into consideration is gives you a true +ev spot or not rather than just standard shipping. Now if you are mass tabling 12+ etc 45s/180s I can see where you won’t get all this information, then yes standard shove spots come into effect and I have no problem with the std Reg shoves like you said. Sorry for taking a while to reply I just saw your comment. Hope this helps! Cheers!
I’m rewatching this excellent video series as part of TPE U. I think the double barrel with the QJ hand was a mistake against that particular player – as seen on the video earlier he was rarely folding when he was in a pot regardless of what his cards were. (About 30 mins into the 2 dollar)
Hi guys. I’m new to TPE. Can someone explain the Iso shoving with 22 toward the end of the vid. Not sure what range we’re beating. So is it fair to say the iso with 22 is a mistake, or is that a spot in tourneys I am missing?
I ran the numbers through Pokerstove. 22 is just a really bad Iso shove. There’s just lots of mistakes in this series. In later a video, DannyN13 rebuys multiple times for two big blinds. This is just bad and this series should be removed from the training videos provided here. It should certainly not be the first series in TPEU. I hope future videos are better, or I’m asking for my money back.
Guy 3 bets you in the small when you have JJ, Is it ok to flat there and let him barrel off his bluffs? I think he just flat 10s 9s and 8s there pre ante so I can’t see us getting it in good against another pair. Shoving is probably still profitable as he folds some and has a ton of AKs he may even 3bets fold AQ so I guess thats a good reason to shove.
