Any book on poker tourney strategy written by Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier and Tony Dunst, two of the most well known online poker tournament stars, is sure to have some information that will benefit the poker player. However, when you add two more poker giants to the mix in the form of poker player Lee Nelson and Tysen Streib, author of Kill Everyone, you end up with a book loaded with valuable advice, inside tips and insightful tricks designed to help you keep up with the modern day poker plays that take place at the green tables.
Do keep in mind that The Raiser’s Edge: Tournament-Poker Strategies for Today’s Aggressive Game written by Bertrand Grospellier, Lee Nelson, Tysen Streib and Tony Dunst is not for beginners, nor for intermediates – so do not pick it up off the shelf if you have suddenly developed an interest for Hold’em on Facebook!
Grospellier or “Elky” as he is better known goes into detail in this book and gives out trade secrets on how to combat Loose and Aggressive plays and adapt your tournament strategy to come out on top.
The authors also explain various techniques like 4-betting and 3- betting, thin value betting, floating and squeezing, minimum raising and smooth calling. You can also pick up some good tips on how to play starting hands and heads up games. Although, the book’s title does not indicate it, The Raiser’s Edge focuses mostly No Limit Hold ‘Em tournaments and the most common styles of play you will face. The book has a chapter dedicated to math based poker strategies and even provides several poker hand examples to help players absorb the concepts and apply the techniques.
This is a book for the serious poker player who already known his game and has been playing tournament poker for fair amount of time at the least. The poker math section is intense but can be extremely rewarding once you understand and implement the strategies in your game play.
Tony Dunst has written several chapters of this book and goes into detail about both live and online tourneys – so there is something for every serious poker tournament player here! He also coaches players on how to make the transition from online poker to live poker – which coming from someone who has literally “been there and done that” is valuable advice.
Some of the other tips and tricks that The Raiser’s Edge highlights include a guide to handling stack sizes and spotting poker tells. The book also analyses the popular playing trends found at the poker tables and teaches readers how to assess and play against opponents from different ages and backgrounds. The chapter on poker tells also has contributions from Steve Van Aperen, a body-language expert to help you spot the difference between real tells and fake ones.

I am about half way through this book and find it is excellent, as was ‘Kill Everyone’. I will probably read this more than once, as a lot of the concepts are very advanced and not always fully appreciated on the first go round. If you have the Kindle you can pick it up for about $11. Highly recommended!

I finished this today. Read all of it on the Kindle App(highly recommend) mostly on my iphone. Well written and easy to read, I could hardly put it down ! Thumbs up.
