I thought I would take a minute or two and write as it has been a few days. I have been on a bit of a tear the last few days playing tourneys which is a really nice change of pace. I did notice something really weird though, I am managing to play substantially better when I was also watching coverage of the WSOP ME on TV. I don't know if it was total immersion, or my brain was really in a poker groove watching the ins and outs of a tourney, but whatever it was I really like it. A nice side effect to it was my wife actually really got into watching the coverage and has started taking an interest in the game. I have to say I was taken back a little by it as she hasn't really ever taken an interest in it, sometimes even getting miffed an how much I play sometimes, but this was a welcome turn of events. She has asked to learn how to play so when we go to casinos in the future she can sit down and enjoy it as well since it looked like fun. I didn't have the heart to tell her how brutal and exhausting the Main Event must be for the players and how crushing losing in a tourney that big has to be, but I am genuinely glad she is excited to play. We are starting to play around with the basics of the game and she is just figuring things out, but she is hoping to be comfortable enough to sit and play when we go to Vegas next summer and I tackle some of the Venetian Deep Stack Tourneys.

Outside of that it is pretty quite now that the WSOP is over. No more checking twitter for constant updates and sweating over what is happening in the evenings. An end has come to watching internet coverage for hours, but I have to say it was all worth it. I have advanced my understanding of live play 100 fold by having the exposure I have had this summer to the WSOP Final Tables and the Main Event. If coverage like this is the future of the game, I couldn't be happier. For now it is back to Merge and working on my game and growing as a player. My first live event on the schedule is during the WTP @ Foxwoods, so I am eagerly waiting for the schedule to come out. I am looking forward to the WSOP-C series this year in Harrah's and Caesar's down in Atlantic City as well, with a host of events that I will attempt to tackle, including both Main Events now that they are substantially more affordable. I think in the last several months I have become a lot more comfortable with the idea of being a very serious amateur in the poker world and my mixed games are starting to get comfortable to the point that I may tackle a PLO event at the Circuit in December. Who knows, here is to hoping I can find a ring this year playing 🙂 This is the Gman signing out for now! Gl at the tables!!!

gotta agree with you g-man. i have been watching replays on espn3 on 2nd screen while playing and have really noticed a difference in my play. i think it might be that on down time the minds not wandering, but focusing on coverage and analysis (which i thought was outstanding) which keeps me in the tourney mode and not have to snap back when a situation comes up. (if that makes sense) plus i like the analysis olivier gives as it’s good to hear top pro’s thought processes and learn from them.
    love your blogs, keep’em coming
