So it has been a few days since I was last writing, actually probably closer to a week so I thought I would fill everyone in on the goings on. I skipped the vast majority of Double GTD week over on FTP. I think I actually only played one day and it was 4 tourneys (2 bullets at the Super Stack and two at the 70k (35k x2)). The results weren't anything to talk of, I really wasn't into the day and playing wasn't all that high a priority so as you can expect the results followed my malaise. I missed the remainder of the week and skipped 3x GTD Sunday, as I don't think I could stomach navigating through that much mess. So what did I do in the off time you ask. Well I spent a lot of time doing studying and watching a lot of vids (I'll admit they weren't TPE vids :), but diversity is important in learning). I have spent a lot of time watching BalugaWhale (for those who don't know who he is, he is a very accomplished and successful cash player who is an instructor at DeucesCracked). The specific series that I have been watching is a series where he took on a student who didn't understand more than the absolute basics of NLHE and worked on coaching and review weekly and coached the student from a entry level cash player to a regular profitable 200NL player. It is a fantastic series as the highlights are not particularly specific to cash persey, rather they focus a lot on general strategy development, what tools to consider and what tools to avoid and develop later. So I have been studying that and working on developing a cash game challenge for myself that I will roll out later in the year (most likely after my Step Challenge completes, as I don't want too many goals at once). That being said, it brings me to last night. I only played a handful of tourneys last night, $22 500 Cap 6max which was kind of a bust, a $5.50 6max on Stars that I ended up losing a huge race for a gigantic stack (was a 10k+ pot at 10/20 where I got my QQ in against A6, A7 and JT and ended up losing to the A on the turn). There were two however that went distinctly differently. I played the 1r 2.5k GTD on AP and managed to be the FT Bubble Boy which was both very encouraging and distinctly disappointing all at once. I was really pleased with my play in the tourney and I think that I made a few mistakes throughout it, but I don't think that I took any huge all-in calling risks which was what I was focusing on. Further review will help me make sure that things are on track. The other success for the evening was my continued chasing of my unicorn. I played the Super Stack 15k on FTP which is by far one of my favorite tournaments, and managed to score another 8th place finish. I think by my count this is the 4th or 5th; 8th place in the last 3 months. I will admit it is frustrating that I can't seem to break that glass ceiling, but it was amazing to see a FT in a large field tourney (1800+ runners). I am working on changing my tourneys that I am targeting to focus a lot more on NON-GTD tourneys to keep the fields smaller and maximize my edge and hopefully my return. We'll see how that goes. No update on the Steps, it was hard trying to get any running last week as so many players were focused on 2x week that not a lot were playing in these side games as it were. Well that is all for now from the felt from the Gman. Things are turning around, play is strong and getting better and it is starting to get exciting from my end. I'll talk to everyone in the next couple of days as tonight is study night! This is the Gman signing out!!
