So anyone who has followed knows that my current quest is breaking into the mid stakes universe. I have been working very dilegently on plaiyng more of the $20ish tourneys and trying to break through and hit my first score there and cement myself in this particular area of the poker world. Well once again I got close, just close enough to see what the other side looks like while I smeared my face on the glass wall between me and victory. What happened you ask. A 102nd place finish in tthe 42k GTD on FTP yesterday. That's what. Ugh. Getting so close, and still so far. I have to say though, my ability to navigate these larger fields is getting much better and I am certainly pleased with that. So what is on the radar for the Gman, MINI-UBOC 6!!! If you haven't taken a look and you play on UB/AP, you may want to take a gander. The value is there. So far there have been zero…count them ZERO sat's to these events so they are going to be straight buyins (or so it would seem) which means smaller fields than normal for mini type stuff and less shot taking so the uber weak nuts should be absent and just the regular players should be there…CAN'T WAIT!!! It looks like most of the tourneys fall right into my playing time so I should be there for almost the entire series.

Playing an entire seriies (or one like this) requires a lot of preperation and discipline to get ready to play. This requires a big time commitment and a lot of work to ensure that one is playing at a top level for an extended period of time. Best I can tell preperation is key and good habits during it are crucial. So how am I getting ready for this, well a couple of ways. First of all, personal routine and habits for this are very important. I have a solid schedule for going to the gym and making sure my meal schedule is set so I am well fed, got plenty of fluids in me, and I am destressed and mentally sharp for the tourneys. Looking at the schedule virtually all of the events are deep stack (or even monster stack) turbos or regular events. So I have been putting in a lot of time working on those specific types of tourneys. I have started putting in a lot of time on $6.50 90man KO's on FT as they are deeper stack to start and provide a solid prep for the turbo tourneys. For the rest I have been playing the Stars $11 Deep Stack (5k starting chips/30 min Levels), the Super Stacks on FTP (5k starting stack 12min levels escalating to 15min) and the Deep Stacks on AP (5k starting stacks and similiar structure to FTP). I think these are crucial tournaments to play to develop the ability to adjust to slower tourneys and to play deeper stacked as this is a crucial edge over regular players who constantly play these events like they are standard tourneys. Wein's USACOOP vids are currently serving as my study material since so far that is the most solid consistent deep stack vid series for a tournament that I have found (couldn't have been any better timing).

Oh well, I am going to get back to my day and continue to work on making sure I am prepared and ready for the Mini-UBOC, I am working on putting a lot of time into getting ready so I am hopeful and anticipating a great result or two out of the series. This is the Gman signing out. May all your flushes be Royal!
