Cory, how did you learn to play poker whilst scuba diving man?
You got some skills ha

i see what you mean with that hand where you folded jj but i think 88-99 is where you can draw that line. do you think the better play overall is to call with jj there? i feel like that is always a call, he only had 12 or so bigs he should have at least 66+ aq+ there even if he is very tight. not even being results oriented it just seems like a call there. i like how you play situation style poker instead of the “standard” excuse for everything.
MJ23STYLEz
umm i didn’t have a problem hearing it when i just re watched it…i noticed that i was talking more quickly and kind of mumbling in some spots i guess just bc the nature of the live sweat..ill get better i promise!!
MJ23STYLEz
not sure what point you were trying to make with this question but no i didnt learn to play poker “whilst scuba diving” lol

I don’t necessarily like my stack under 20bbs but when I’m that deep in a big trny, especially short handed, I don’t usually like leaving my trny life up to variance. In that spot after there was an open and then a 3b shove from the tightest guy at the table I’m essentially guessing as to if my hand is any good or not. And then IF it is the best hand at the time, against the two opponents who acted before me, I still have 3 people behind me to act. So in saying that, to “fist pump snap the JJ” is kind of a mindless/standard way to play that hand bc you aren’t considering all the other factors. All you see is “I have 18bbs, I have pocket Jacks, I have to shove.” But in my opinion, late game MTT strategy is wayyyyyyy different than early and middle. Def a live pro thought process though. Probably safe to say 95% of players would shove JJ in that spot…I’m that other 5% i guess. 🙂
*just think, if I would have lost that flip to AK or say that guy actually had my JJ beat would this point maybe make a little more sense to you ??? agree or disagree, everyone plays different..an that’s why this game is so awesome!!!

Thanks bud appreciate the comment! But naw I def can’t just call there. That’s essentially the same thing as shoving since I’d only have like 3.5bbs left. Can’t really put that much in the middle then plan on folding if I got 4b shoved on. That’s a little extreme of a ninja tactic even for me lol

@ around 44 mins, the hand where you 3bet the QJ. You go for thin value on the river after stating that he has at best a 4 in that spot. Would you care to elaborate a little bit more on why you think he has just a pair of 4’s there? Player read’s, etc?
MJ23STYLEz
yeaaa that was just a mistake…had a brain fart on the river an pretty much forgot that I 3b pre and was thinking that he had just defended his BB lol.. whoooooops

Also think that JJ vs a 14bb rejam is a snap reshove.

Actually im gonna play teachers pet and agree with the fold. We have an utg open … Tightish player three betting and several players yet to act PLUS its the bubble. Nice hand … Dont be results oriented here folks.

I had just finished watching your first video series, and I didn’t give a second thought to the audio quality, which means it was probably good. This video though sounds really crappy. I like to watch videos at 1.25x-1.5x speed, so crappy audio sounds even crappier. You obviously did something different. I know you mentioned you had computer problems mid-series, so maybe your old laptop had a much better mic, or maybe you’re in a different room where the acoustics are bad. I don’t really know, but it’s bad enough to be a distraction. The other thing that’s not really bad but watching a video with a 2 colored deck is just weird. Must be those live game tendencies of yours. Content wise I think it’s good.

Regarding the QQ towards the end and whether to min raise or shove; if you pick up a monster after shoving twice does it really matter that a min raise might look super strong? With that stack size (I think it was still under 15bb) anyone that calls with a marginal hand is not getting the implied odds to do so. On Bovada I’m min raising all the time since that will give a typical Bovada player an excuse to spaz 3b with something like 76s (it won’t matter if you shoved the previous 5 hands before min raising). I’m not experience enough on other sites to know if that is a likely scenario outside of Bovada, but I’m going to assume at low stakes it would be (probably to a lesser degree; a Bovada tard is a special kind of tard). Bottom line is even though on your 3rd shove you might be getting called lighter than a typical shove in that spot you are still going to get more folds than a min raise would. With min raising you get more value post flop from inferior hands, plus you have spaz out equity potential. The risk is you let inferior hand catch up, but at <15BB that's not much of an issue. You could also get away if you run into a hand you are ahead of but out flopped you (your low variance ninja style) like AT or KJ, but the flip is of that is those hands might have called all in preflop but won't put any more in after. I think overall min raising is best. What do you think?
MJ23STYLEz
man you just got super deep lol I play in the moment, and in the moment there I just felt like shoving was the best play. I had less than 12bbs, min raising looks super strong imo and that’s not the “story” I’m trying to tell when I’m short stacked w/ QQ at a FT. Felt like shoving gave me the best chance for a double. Simple as that.

I sort of agree with you, but I think there’s one thing you don’t mention. The guy had just lost a big pot the hand before. So there’s probably at least some tilt factor involved in his shove. At least on PokerStars today you see people shove all kinds of garbage just after loosing a hand, don’t know how it is on that site.
If the guy had folded 20 hands and then do this, I agree with folding jacks. But in this particular situation, I think it’s a shove. And I don’t worry about the UTG raise, because that’s coming from an agg monkey.
