Day 1C draws nearly 4,000 entrants, sets attendance record.
Day 1 of the 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event is officially in the books. A total of 6,420 poker players paid the $10,000 buy-in to compete in this year’s Main Event. That number is down 3.9% from 2014, but Day 1C set a new WSOP single starting day attendance record with 3,963 entrants.
John Gorsuch of Virginia (pictured) is the overall chip leader in the 2015 WSOP Main Event with 198,100 chips. The eventual Main Event champion will take home just shy of $7.7 million.
There are plenty of household poker names remaining in the 2015 WSOP Main Event. Former Main Event champions Phil Hellmuth (who is the all-time leading WSOP bracelet winner with 14), Ryan Riess, Peter Eastgate, Jamie Gold and Joe Hachem survived to reach Day 2.
Other big names still in the hunt include all-time live poker tournament money leader Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, and Michael Mizrachi. To date, Negreanu is the only player in the world to have earned more than $30 million in live tournament cashes, according to The Hendon Mob.
Day 2 action will be divided into three official flights, with Day 2A and 2B competing in separate rooms on Wednesday July 8th. Day 2C will commence the following day before all remaining entrants are combined into a single player pool.
The 2015 WSOP Main Event will feature continuous daily action through Tuesday, July 14th, when this year’s “November Nine” final table will be decided. The final nine players will return to the Rio in November to compete for the championship cash prize and bracelet.
